Boston: White, Smith & Co, 1883. Quarto in wrappers (26 x 18 cm.), 104 pages. FIRST & ONLY EDITION of this vocal score with piano accompaniment. An ad appearing in the March 1884 issue of the publisher's Folio Magazine described The Berry-Pickers as a "new and original operetta in two art--, adapted to the use of young people, and designed to illustrate scenes in country life" (page 142). A later issue of the same periodical indicates "The Berry Pickers was produced for the first time entire at Union Hall, Boston, January 30, before a large and enthusiastic audience. The presentation of the operetta was a most gratifying surprise to all who witnessed it. The delight caused by many of the numbers can hardly be over-rated, and the fact that many of them were re-demanded proves the success of the work." Adding that the "costumes can be made with very little expense" (page 113). Spine cocked; bit of spotting to upper right corner of a few leaves. Publisher's wrappers decorated in brown, burgundy and…

Description:
Chicago: Brothers of the Book, 1912. Duodecimo (15.5 x 11.4 cm.), [ ] pages. Illustrated with woodcut vignettes. Addenda laid-in at rear. Stated "Reprint Edition" but evident FIRST EDITION, though the addenda attempts to sew doubt. The Brothers of the Book Society was founded in 1898 by Laurence Conger Woodworth (1874-1924) with the purpose of publishing noteworthy books. This work is an anachronism, with recipes for various alcoholic beverages, mostly punches, purporting to be a reprint of a found work from 1784. The colophon states that the hoax was perpetrated by Kendall Banning (1879-1944). The "Addenda" laid-in at rear is interesting as Woodworth responds to the colophon, the "writer of the 'explanation' accepted Mr. Banning's statement that the original of this reprint was a hoax. Since the book went to press, however, several of Mr. Banning's friends have written in vigorous protest..." Publisher's original calf-backed, marbled paper-covered boards, paper label on cover. Spine and boards a bit…

Description:
New York: [printed by] A. Penfield, 1865. Unfolded booklet (13 x 22.5 cm.), [6] pages (if folded). John B. Barlett's business was located at 69 Murray Street, New York, where he distributed the Squire's Patent Fruit Jar. "The GREAT SECRET in preserving fruit lies in thoroughly expelling the oxygen, and safely sealing therefrom". The Squire's Jars used a combination rubber band and cork to achieve this. The cover illustration depicts a young woman in the process of canning, with a steaming pot on the stove in the background, and shelves of finished product in the background, implying the efficiency of this method, which she is employing. Discoloration of one edge of the leaf, effecting the illustration; otherwise very good. [OCLC locates one copy in an unnamed collection of culinary ephemera; otherwise not located].
