[Massachusetts]: B. Bailey, 1836. First Edition (?). Near fine. Engraving printed in black on white glazed cardstock; unusually thick and heavy. A tinge of dust-soiling to the outer margins, and very minor staining to the verso, but a lovely, near fine example. A wonderfully intricate and visually arresting engraving of the seventh president, containing a likeness of him in glasses at the top, and full the text of Jackson's first Inaugural Address as the main text, signed by Jackson in print at the bottom. The text, in addition to the decorative border and portrait, is entirely engraved rather than typeset. A beautifully executed presidential keepsake. OCLC records two definite holdings, at AAS and Southern Methodist, while a later (1845) memorial edition is also held by AAS. The only other holdings appear to be digital-only.

[no place, likely Cleveland]: Self-published, 1968. First Edition. Softcover. Near fine. Square octavo, 240pp., illustrated. A near fine copy in the publisher's pale blue wrappers, printed in black. Small crease to the front wrap, else a nice, clean copy. A labor of love, this volume commemorates the efforts made by the Ukrainian-American community to convince the US Postal Service to issue a stamp in honor of Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko. The book consists mainly of facsimiles of correspondence, along with many images from photographs depicting people and places related to the events surrounding the efforts to issue the stamp. By the end of the book, the stamp had not yet been issued, and we are unsure whether it ever was. In any event, this volume represents a classic example of an American ethnic group organizing and petitioning for greater cultural recognition.

Corners and edges worn, some internal foxing, but overall a presentable copy, structurally sound in this sturdy binding. Nice contemporary bookseller ticket from Malaga, Spain on the front paste-down. Text in Spanish.

Duodecimo. 4.5 x 6.75 in. ix, 11-172 pp. Black & white etching illustration titlepage and facing frontispiece, as well as occasional vignettes throughout chapters. Very good in original mulberry cloth with lettering on spine in gilt, slight sunning to spine and general wear to boards however binding is square and tight with text block clean and unmarked.

A good copy in the publisher's red cloth, generally dulled. Text and illustrations clean and bright. Uncommon volume on ballooning, published just before flight became an accessible reality.

Rochester, NY: E. R. Andrews, 1878. First Separate Edition. Softcover. Very good. Octavo, 29pp. A crisp, clean, very good copy in the publisher's printed plue wraps. Label removal from the front wrap, slight discoloration, but the contents clean and bright. Presentation slip bound in at the title page reads, "Presented by R. A. Brock, Richmond, Virginia." Brock was a historian, Civil War veteran, and collector of documents and antiquities relating to his home state of Virginia. His archive and collection are housed at the Huntington Library. This volume is an essay and exegesis of an early 18th century bound Virginia manuscript entitled "A Book of Orders of Court Begun April Court Anno Domini 1737. Be Lewellin Eppes Cls [Clericus] Curiae." The author of the pamphlet, Bacon, interprets the social and political dynamics of the colony during that period, based on the text. Cleveland: Central National Bank, 1928. First Edition. Sewn binding. Fine. Folio, unpaginated [16pp.], illustrated. A fine copy in the publisher's sewn wraps, with only the most trivial nick at the crown. A fantastic Cleveland item; a handsomely-produced commemoration of a new mural at the Central National Bank, one of Cleveland's long-established financial institutions. The mural (by Cleveland artist Ivor G. Johns), though executed just before the Wall Street crash, clearly antcipates the WPA style, which would follow a few years later. This explication of the artwork - it's characters and their meaning - reflects the almost unbridled optimism of that era; endless natural resources, the value of hard work and the plentiful rewards that await the willing participant in the American economy. To think, consulting this volume, that in just two years thousands of Clevelanders would be out of work and waiting on bread lines is almost unthinkable. A delightful comtemporary artistic tribute to New York's most iconic building.

The account of a female American traveler's two-year journey around the world. She traveled from her native Cleveland to the American West Coast, then set off for Japan, China, the Indian Subcontinent, through Palestine, Europe, and back to the US over the Atlantic. Uncommon.

One small sticker on the top of the front cover, else unmarked. Appears to be SIGNED by the author (and himself on behalf of his wife) on the first leaf: "With our love, Paul & Charlotte." The "Paul" matches exactly the facsimile signature of the author printed on the front cover. An uncommon history of the Presbyterian mission in the land of the LDS church.

This is one of 115 limited copies SIGNED by Balakina, Smith, and Richards on the limitation page (another 15 copies were printed on different paper, and were hors-commerce). Laid-in is an original prospectus for the volume, along with a Christmas greeting card from the publisher. A scarce volume, one of Balakian's earliest efforts, and uncommon in the trade.
