A fairly sharp, crisp copy with just a bit of smudging on the front cover and a bit of sunning to the top of the rear cover; contemporary bookseller's ticket inside the front cover; contents are clean. Nevins describes this as "[t]he abridged letters (1862-1865) of Dr. Edward W. Cade, whose service as a brigade surgeon was in teh Trans-Mississippi department" CWB I, 51. Dornbusch II, 2633.

Binding is a bit abraded; owner names and family library stamps to the endpaper and preliminaries; the contents are fairly foxed. One of the owner names is that of Nathaniel H. Claiborne on the first blank; it has been marked through; the name of Harden Hairston is on the front free endpaper. Claiborne came from notable Virginia stock and was a lawyer and politician. A presentable and solid copy of this early volume of reports. Quite uncommon in the first edition and in this condition. Includes from October term of the year 1799, trough April term of the year 1801. Shaw & Shoemaker 3477.

Binding is superficially abraded; front free endpapaper is lacking and a portion of the subsequent blank page; notes, owner names, and family library stamp to the endpaper and preliminaries; additionally, there is early dampstaining and the contents are fairly foxed. Despite this, it is a solid copy and presents well on the shelf. Early volume of reports and quite uncommon in the first edition and in this condition. Includes cases from Spring term of 1797 through Spring term of 1799. Shaw & Shoemaker 1587.

A fairly rough copy with heavy wear to the board edges and closed tears to the cloth at the joints; the bottom 1.5" of the backstrip is barely attached; large loss to the bottom corner of the front free endpaper; despite the heavy wear, it is a solid textblock and even the hinges are holding; contents are heavily foxed and toned. The first part has information of all manner of businesses as well as locality statistics. This is followed by nearly 200 pages of advertisements. A remarkable reference of the antebellum South and beyond. Scarce in the trade. Eberstadt 138-617; Howes C-99; Sabin 10258.

Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott and Co, 1860. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Octavo. [2], 17-765 pp. First Edition. Rebound in early 20th century cloth with brown morocco title label on the spine. Both Howes and Sabin note a gap in pagination, that the book begins with p. 11 after the title page leaf. It appears that 6 pages were not bound, nevertheless, the text is complete, beginning Chapter 1 on page 17. It is a tasteful and sturdy rebinding with little wear. Bookplate of Wyndham Robertson Meredith on the front pastedown along with a brief page reference to a descendant. A clean, bright copy. Haynes 2811; Howes C-89; Sabin 10214.

Contemporary leather binding with red morocco title label. Leather separated at the front joint, but the boards is holding well; chipping to the leather at the spine ends; despite these faults and the moderate shelfwear, this is a presentable copy; front free endpaper is roughly excised; a later previous owner name on the next blank and a contemporary owner name at the head of the first printed page; folding frontispiece is present and worn at the fore-edge margin, not affecting text; generally toned and foxed throughout. An interesting publication issued during the War of 1812 that sought to find unity in a divided political system. Sabin 10877.

Cover is generally soiled; five-digit number stamped on the first page; pencil note along the top of the first page; contemporary owner name in ink on the same page. Pressure stamp in the outer margin that is visible though indecipherable throughout most of the pamphlet, diminishing in the later leaves; additional stab holes in the inner margin from a modern conservation folder, now removed; two horizontal fold lines through the pamphlet. Concerns dismissal of John Randel, contractor for the eastern section of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, by the Board of Directors and of his alleged mistreatment by Judge Benjamin Wright. Signed in type on p. 7, "Mathew Cary, Philadelphia, Oct. 5, 1825." As issued, stapled into stiff wrappers with printed jacket. A very bright copy. A lovely edition of these seven poems by this Italian-American writer.

Charleston: Printed by Evans & Cogswell, Printers to the Convention, 1860. [Americus, GA?: n.p., n.d.]. Original Wrappers. Good binding. Octavo. 13, [3 (blank)] pp. Counterfeit edition. As issued, in printed wrappers. A bright fresh copy. This is a fairly nice example of the late 19th century or early 20th century forgery, identifiable by the error in the publisher's imprint on both the wrapper and the title page. Of this document, Harwell writes, "Presented by Christopher G. Memminger as the report of the committee to draw up the Declaration. It is this document that the South Carolinians of 1860 regarded as a new Declaration of Independence" (In Tall Cotton 171). Second edition of Carter's second edition of poems. Includes the dedication to William Pulteney, Earl of Bath, a poem (in the preface) by Lordy Lyttleton, two articles to "The Rambler" (nos. 44 and 100), and the poems "In Diem Natalem," "Ode to Anacreon," and "On the Death of Mrs. Rowe," among others. Carter (1717-1806) included among her many accomplishments being a respected scholar of Greek and translator of Epictetus. ESTC T82901.

First edition, thus. As issued, backed in publisher's cloth with cloth over boards; all plates are present as called for. A very nice set with a bit of minor shelfwear; the bottom edge of the textblocks have evidence of moisture exposure. This is primarily manifest as tideline on the bottom of the fore-edge of both textblock; very light evidence on the pages themselves beyond some minor waviness to the bottom margin of much of Volume II. Despite this, it remains a very presentable copy of an uncommon and valuable historical reference. A lengthy introduction by the editor as well as a sizable 50-page index.

In original decorative cloth; all four plates are present as called for. Binding a trifle soiled, but a reasonable copy; contemporary owner inscription on the front free endpaper, dated 1909. Originally published anonymously in 1845, first editions of this work are extremely rare in commerce. Surprisingly, even early 20th reprints are anything but abundant.

As issued in publisher's red cloth with small pictorial pastedown on the front board; lacking the glassine wrapper. Some darkening to the fore- and bottom edge of the front board; contents are generally clean. Reproduction of German and Austrian postcards from 1914, with English translations of the German texts; all cards, in one way or another (and ridiculously in the upshot) show the German Army triumphant. The colophon says only that "a few copies of this book" were printed; the back pastedown here bears a very small inked numeral "44," which may indicate this copy's number.
