Paris: H. Rousseau, 1855. Moderate wear.. An untitled elaborate paper doll set with room setting. The litho on the cover depicts one lady admiring herself in a mirror with a second dresses the child and another lady looks on. Includes two identical 6.75" two-sided female dolls and a 4.75" child. The women have 11 interchangeable two sided costumes; one of the costumes features a little boy standing at her side. There are a total of three (3) costumes for the child and a total of four (4) hats. The box bottom has six (6) sections for storage of the dolls and costumes. The inside of the box lid features a lithograph of an elaborate sitting room scene for pretend play; an area to dress and display the dolls in their various costumes. Note the addition of a child with the costumes, similar to the Lady of London or American Lady sets.

1901. Fine.. A particularly charming 1901 album of paper dolls, outfits, and accessories with original watercolor artwork by L.C. Ball. The album includes: (9) paper dolls (three of which are tiny paper dolls for the bigger paper dolls); over seventy (70) outfits; and over forty (40) accessories (including a charming bulldog, collie, and puppy). The smallest doll is 1.5"; the largest 5". Charming, and completely unique. Housed in modern folio textured paper album (11.5" by 9") with 11 mylar sleeves.

A collection of letters written by three (3) siblings from an affluent family. Most include the postally used envelopes. The father of the children was George P. Howlett, an attorney. The children's grandfather was William Rudd of Albany NY, a train. The letters are newsy with information about family outings to the country club, current events and visits to the homes of others. A letter from October 1901 reads "There were a great crowd on the boulivard(sic), cars and many extra cars running. I had to let eight go by, one behind the other before I could get on..." One letter by the oldest sibling discusses a Halloween outing and her visits to the gymnasium. The younger of the siblings begins most of her correspondence with an apology for the delay in writing. Inscribed on free end paper and dated 1940 (??) This was Campbells first book.

Brevard, N.C.: Queen City PTG. Co, 1935. Overall condition is good, ink note on inside back cover.. 40pp. Embossed cover illustration of boy golfer. Includes original mailing envelope with image of stereotypical Native American. The Camp Carolina brochure provides details about the general life and activities that can be expected for boys to experience. There is a description of the grounds, the surrounding scenery, and the general organizational structure of the camp's groups. The campers are divided into four groups by age range, and are able to participate in a multitude of activities, from horseback to riflery, golf, swimming and many more to engage the interest of the boys. Regency-era Valentine with hand-colored etching of a lovely young lady holding a bouquet of flowers, above what appears to be an original handwritten sonnet: "Ne vous Affligez point sure votre infirmité / Ô beauté singulière! admirable Entrangère..." ("Do not grieve over your infirmity / O singular beauty! admirable Stranger..."). We have been unable to identify the poet or pseudonym "Etienne Cassagnon". Bifolium (9.5" by 7.25") with hand-colored etching, decorative border. Small number "6" has been printed next to image.

Salem, MA: E. G. Hoose, 1820-1823. James Chancy was a grocer in Salem who used this copy book to keep an accounting of his customer's purchases between 1820-1823. For each entry Chancy lists the name of the customer, under which lists the date and items purchased. Sometimes it also records when he was paid, normally in cash. Sometimes the pages have been crossed out with an X, the reason for this is unknown, but perhaps it meant the account was closed. The front cover has two woodcut engravings. The first is a ship with clouds. The second is an intricate decorative device surround the bookplate. - The back cover has a multiplication and numeration table on it. As well as a list of the days in a week, and months in year. New York, New York: Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, 1921. Good. Water stains, dust soiling.. A guide to preventing and recognizing the symptoms of pneumonia for families and the general public. Mentions measles, influenza, pregnancy and childbirth, and surgical operations where chloroform is given as possible instances that may cause pneumonia. Advises patients to seek a doctor, and prevent the spread of germs to others. Indicates that pneumonia starts with severe shaking chills, great prostration, loss of appetite, a heavy sensation in the chest, generally made worse by coughing or breathing and in a few hours, by bloody spit. Bifolium (7.75" by 5.25"), printed on blue paper. The Welfare Division of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company published dozens of public health booklets, offering advice on subjects ranging from healthy eating to the importance of vaccinating children against common diseases.

New Haven, CT: Durrie and Peck, 1853. 192 pp. Decorated cloth binding, with gilt edges. 48 woodcut engravings. Miniature book. The book starts off with a note from the author herself to the readers: "In this tiny book, my dear little friends will find a great many pictures drawn from the most interesting parts of the Old Testament. I intend to say a few words about each, to explain the meaning; but there is not much room, so I must be very short. I hope my young readers will want to learn more, and will gladly turn to their Bibles [so] that they may do so." The illustrations in this book are wood engravings, and with over 40 images there is nearly one every other page. While certainly simplicity images, mainly due to their relatively small size, they are charming renditions of some of the most dramatic scenes from the Old Testament. Albany, New York: The New York State Temperance Society, 1836. Good. Toned, dust soiling with some damp staining, pen trials to upper wrapper.. A report compiled by temperance advocate Samuel Chipman on the current state of incarcerated persons in New York state institutions, including poor-houses, jails, asylums, alms-houses, and other related establishments. The dozens of reports on these institutions are organized by location, and contain information about demographics, financial information, crimes committed where applicable, and living conditions. An important primary source for investigating the state of incarcerated persons in 19th century New York. Single vol. (7.5" by 4.75"), pp. 96, sewn in original printed self wrps. The New York State Temperance Society was an all-male society dedicated to promoting complete abstinence from alcohol in the early- to mid- 19th century.

New York, New York: Corrective Eating Society, 1921. Good to very good. Some toning, water staining, small chips or short tears.. Revised edition of a weight loss guide broken intro eight parts, and published by the "Corrective Eating Society" of New York, an organization formed by nutritionist Eugene Christian. Christian (1860-1930) pioneered the raw food diet and presented himself as a qualified physician, despite lacking any actual medical degrees. He is now (and was then) considered a charlatan or quack. An engraved business card for Church's gold chains. Finally, includes are two (2) style of tags (six total) o affix to the chains warranting every link hard soldered. Boston: James R Osgood and Company, 1874. 314 page book, with gilt stamped covers, 1st edition. The book compiles forty-three (43) letters between an architect and his friends. These letters "are composed of hints and suggestions relating to to building of homes... [and] aim to give practical information to those about to build." This book is a wonderful piece of early architectural Americana style known as ‘Stick Style.' This book features 30 black and white illustrations, some of which are full page blue prints to houses or rooms described in the letters. The list of illustrations has two pictures entitled 'On a Sidehill' and 'Only One Corner', supposedly printed on pages 43 and 48 respectively. However, this is not the case, they are located earlier in the book, one opposite the title page and the other right before the first letter begins. All the other illustrations are located where they are supposed to be. Minor edge wear, particularly on the spine. Minor foxing.

Boston: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Co, 1907. A 403 paginated book that pays homage to the ideal of the New England country farm boy and what boyhood life on a New England farm in the early 1900s was like. In the preface the author writes: "The old time type of New England farm boy is fast passing into oblivion, and with him all the surroundings that made him what he was... and in his place has come a new type of boy that soon grows dissatisfied with farm life and seeks the town. It is to rescue from oblivion just a faint picture of the old fashioned boy... [the author] has the hope that those among its readers who were country born will in memory live their youth again with all its fond recollection and all that made it sweet and sacred ." Unnumbered 18 pp book (including inside cover) profusely illustrated picture book taking a group of children and anthropomorphic animals traveling by train to various locations about the world. A die-cut train is attached to the back inside cover allowing the the child to place the train atop the pages for arrival and departure. Measures 9 1/2" x 12

Boston, Massachusetts: Rand, Avery & Co, Printers, 1870. Some light toning and spotting, else fine.. Illustrated Spanish-language advertising bifolium for Burleigh Rock Drill Co., a highly successful manufacturer of industrial mining equipment based in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Includes large illustration of gentleman operating the Burleigh rock drill on the upper cover, and another illustration of the drill on the lower cover. Inside, the efficiency and efficacy of the equipment is discussed alongside a list of successful mines and contractors currently using the product. Measures 5.75" by 3.5" Charles Burleigh's machine drill was first introduced and patented in 1866, and soon became one of the most successful rock drills in an industry that had not long before been dependent on hand drilling.
