Description:
The is a first edition from the classics series published by International Collectors Library in 1970.The Robe is a 1942 historical novel about the Crucifixion of Jesus, written by the American minister Lloyd C. Douglas. The book explores the aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus through the experiences of the Roman tribune. It was a massive best-seller for several years, but is best-known for its 1953 adaptation starring Richard Burton.
This is a lovely book. It is red leatherette.
It has a gilt design on the cover and spine and a bound-in silk bookmark.
The original owner put a bookplate on the inside front cover and then crossed out his/her name. You can either put a label over that or steam off the bookplate.
Other than that, it's in absolutely pristine condition. There are no marks in or on it; I don't believe that it's been read; it doesn't appear to have been opened.

This is a beautiful book, elegantly designed with tons of photos, maps and drawings. 413 pages. It has not been read, or even opened, until now. There is a tiny bit of shelfwear to the dust jacket. Description:
This is a first edition of Caesars of the Wilderness, written in 1987 by the Canadian journalist Peter C Newman. It is part two of his history of the Hudson's Bay Company; in this volume, we learn about the war for supremacy over the North American fur trade, and the territory ranging from San Francisco to the Beaufort Sea. The competition was between the Hudson's Bay's Fur Brigades, and their arch-rivals the Northwest Company, an incredible battle that remains the fiercest commercial feud in history. Description:
This is a stated first edition (2005) of The Pirates Laffite, The Treacherous World of the Corsairs of the Gulf, the story of the two brothers who ran a notorious privateering cooperative in New Orleans from 1803-1823. Labeled as corsairs and buccaneers for methods that bordered on piracy, the brothers imported contraband goods and made life hell for Spanish merchants on the Gulf. They became important members of a syndicate that included lawyers, bankers, merchants, and corrupt U.S. officials. But they were also paid Spanish spies, handing over information about the syndicate's plans and selling out their own associates. The book was written by the American historian William C Davis, who conducted exhaustive research. The book is 706 pages, but the last 200 are explanatory notes and the index. There are also a few photos and illustrations. This copy does not appear to have been read. Its only flaw is that, in production, the front endpaper and title page became stuck to the cover, at the top corner.… Read More

Description:
You'll find some of these books listed as first editions and dated 1965, or 1957. The first edition in French was printed in 1957; the first in English was printed in 1958. This is a copy of that first edition.
It is a serious work of art history, and includes survey notices, exhibition texts and comments to and from collectors.

9" x 11", 4 lbs.
291 pages.
That includes 86 pages about Edgar Degas--his life and work, including illustrations and sketches.
Then there are 152 pages of plates. Most are black and white, and there are many black and white sketches and drawings.
There are 35 heliogravure (photogravure) color plates. These are tipped in, or hand-mounted, meaning that they are easily removed for framing.
But they are on different paper--a beige linen paper. You can remove the whole page and use the linen in the frame, or you could put your own backing on.

The spine of this book is badly discolored, although the covers are still a nice green. The inside is perfect.Note: The shipping… Read More

Description:
"In this first installment of his masterful biography, Simon Callow captures the genius of Orson Welles as only an actor/director rooted in the entertainment industry could. Here is Welles's prodigious childhood; his youth in New York, with its fraught partnership with John Houseman and the groundbreaking triumph of his all-black Macbeth; the pioneering radio work that culminated in the notorious 1938 broadcast of War of the Worlds; and finally, his work in Hollywood, including an authoritative account of the making of Citizen Kane. Rich in detail and insight, this is far and away the definitive look at Orson Welles."Published by Random House UK 1995Printed on recycled paper. Plain black boards with brilliant gold lettering on the spine. It has a bookplate--it was awarded to a student for her contributions to a theater program. Description:
This is the first/only printing of Highland Bagpipe Makers, Second Edition by the Scottish historian Jeannie Campbell. The first edition was a best-seller; in this edition, she finds more bagpipe makers, expands on previously published information, and adds more illstrations. There is also a new section on people were were bagpipe makers but worked for others, and there is more information on materials.
This is a $50 book but it has had a spill. At the front of the book, there is waving to the pages, there are a few stained pages, and two pages are stuck together, at the bottom corner. Otherwise fine.

Description:
This is a mint-condition first edition of the famous book Some Desperate Glory, the diary of the British officer, Edwin Campion Vaughan (1897-1931). It was written during the first eight months of 1917, while he was deployed near the Cambrai sector and then moved up to Ypres at the start of the Battle of Passchendaele. The diary was published posthumously in the UK in 1981, then in the US in 1988.
Writing in the Wall Street Journal in 2006, James J. Cramer cites Some Desperate Glory as one of the five best books on war: "Vaughan describes the screams of the wounded who had sought refuge in the freshly gouged holes only to find themselves slowly drowning as rain fell and the water level rose. A relentlessly stark account of the war's bloodiest, most futile battle."
This copy has an unclipped dust jacket with tiny bits of shelfwear to the back only. The book itself may have been read once, but there are no marks of any kind in it or on it.

Description:
This is a very handsome copy of Truman Capote's famous book In Cold Blood, which was first serialized in the New Yorker, and was published in book form in 1965. This is a first book club edition from the International Collectors Library.
It is about the 1959 murders of the Clutter family, in Kansas, by a couple of drifters. Next to Vincent Bugliosi's book Helter Skelter, it is the #1 true-crime book in publishing history.
This copy is in pristine condition, except for a tiny bit of shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine. It is red boards covered in leather, or leatherette--I can't quite tell but I think it's leather.
There is brilliant gilt on the cover and the spine. There is a bound-in red silk bookmark.
All of the the pages are clear and creamy white; there are no marks of any kind in it or on it.

This is a stated first edition of A Viking Voyage: In Which an Unlikely Crew of Adventurers Attempts an Epic Journey to the New World It was written by the American journalist Hodding Carter and published in 2000.

This book has not been read, or even opened. It is in mint condition.

From the publisher:Fascinated since childhood with Leif Eriksson's triumphant sailing voyage a thousand years ago from Greenland to North America, Hodding Carter could not shake his admittedly crazy idea of reenacting Eriksson's epic journey in a precise replica of the precarious Viking cargo ship known as a knarr. This extraordinary book is the account of how he pulled it off. By turns thrilling and slapstick, sublime and outrageous, A Viking Voyage
is an unforgettable adventure story that will take you to the heart of some of the most magnificent, unspoiled territory on earth, and even deeper, to the heart of a journey like no other. A celebration of the people and places Carter visits and a treasure-trove of… Read More

In the early 1950s, Michael Joseph published a series of best-selling books under the imprint Mermaid Books. They were all 5" x 7 1/2", on thicker paper. Colored, illustrated and laminated covers. Not paperbacks, not hard covers--flexible harder covers is the best way to describe them. This is one of those Mermaid Books.
It is Mister Johnson, the sixth of 23 novels, written in 1939, by the Irish novelist Joyce Cary (1888-1957). Cary, who called it his favorite book, wrote the story as humor, but it is actually more of a tragedy, as it is about a young Nigerian who falls afoul of British colonial authorities. It is regularly used in schools and produced for the stage. In 1990, Bruce Beresford became the first director to shoot an American film on location in Nigeria; his film of the same name starred Maynard Eziashi, Pierce Brosnan and Edward Woodward.

This book is 206 pages with no interior adornment.

This is the catalog from the 1995 Vancouver exhibit of the works of Bernard Cathelin (1919-2004).
Bernard Cathelin was a French painter and a member of the School of Paris which included Matisse, De Buffet and Brianchon. Famous for oil paintings and lithographs with a richness of texture and vivid colour, his three favorite themes were still life, landscapes and portraits of women. In 1995, Cathelin was elected to the Legion of Honour; also in 1995, a retrospective exhibition at the Musée de Valence established a new attendance record for the museum. And, at the end of the same year, he exhibited in Vancouver, at the Buschlen Mowatt Gallery, which produced this catalog.
The covers of this book are not in the best of shape, but the rest of it is. The front endpaper is signed by the artist, in red, and accompanies a hand-written note. There is biographical information about the artist, plus about 30 pages of pieces that could be framed.
