The seventh volume in his fantasy/romance series set in the mythical medieval country of Poictesme. His best known book, perhaps because of attempts to suppress it as obscene. Good only with cloth at spine darkened and spine gilt perished. Lacking dust jacket.

Richmond: Privately Printed, 1906. First edition. The Cabell forgery, adapted from his "Love Letters of Falstaff." Cabell denied knowledge of this piracy, which he called "a forgery sadly bungled." But reportedly it was produced as a spoof perpetrated and published by Ben Abramson of the Argus Book Shop with Cabell's consent. Fine in tan paperwraps.

Top edge stain faded and lightly foxed otherwise near fine in good or better dust jacket with toning, moderate chipping, some soiling and general wear, A scarce book, scarcer still in any jacket much less this first-issue one.

New York: Avon Book, (1945). First edition. Very good paperback, with rubbing on edges, soiling, age toned textblock, otherwise, binding strong, bright lettering on spine and no major tears. No dust jacket.

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, (1934). Reprint edition. A movie edition with stills from the movie, including ones of Lana Turner and John Garfield on front and back jacket covers. Book is about very good in a dust jacket worn on edges, with some closed tears and spine fading.

In price-clipped dust jacket, about very good with spine tanned but lettering still bright and a few relatively small chips and tears. Scarce in dust jacket.

London: George Allen & Unwin, (1934). First edition. Translated from the Czech by M. and R. Weatherall. "A serious, almost tragic, study of Slavonic peasant life" (dust jacket) in which Jurai Hordubal returns home after 8 years working in America to a life turned upside down and is eventually murdered by his wife's lover. Tragic indeed. Near fine with short, narrow rub to green top edge stain and light foxing to page edges and rear endpaper. In good to very good price-clipped dust jacket spine ends and corners a bit chipped and rubbed.

New York: Macmilllan Company, 1940. First U.S. edition. Translated from the Czech by M. & R. Weatherall. The novel describes the two or three days of rescue work in a mine after an explosion. Tiny string pull on spine and vertical offsets near hinges, otherwise fine in very good to near dust jacket with spine slightly tanned, a touch of spotting to one corner rear panel, few small rubbed chips and tears, and spine folds internally reinforced with archival tape.

New York: Macmillan, 1925. First U.S. edition. Translated from the Czech by Lawrence Hyde. The story of an engineer who discovers "Krakatit" -- an explosive powerful enough to destroy the world. Bright and nearly fine with barest wear and one small stain to page fore edge. In dust jacket with corners clipped but "$2.50" price still present, as usually seen. Jacket is lightly chipped, has two internal tape repairs (thin strip of paper tape and small piece of clear tape), and is somewhat skinned on rear panel but otherwise bright and very good.
