The collection consists of letters and correspondence in English, Russian, and Finnish, family photographs, and immigration and other official documents in English, Russian, and Finnish or Swedish. Dates range from the late 19th and early 20th centuries to the 1970s. Some materials may be older. The materials are not arranged in any particular order and photographs from all time periods are somewhat mixed in with each other. Dating is sporadic and many items in the collection are not dated. The collection is contained in one bankers box which holds photographs, albums, negatives, notebooks, journals, passports, immigration documents, and correspondence. Jagraon, India, 1927. Photo Album. 7 " x 11 " Heavy black kraft paper with tie binding. 155 original black and white photos ranging in size from 1 " x 2 " to 6 " x 4 ". This photo album documents a group of white Christian missionaries serving in India in the late 1920s; primarily in the area of Jagraon, in the state of Punjab. Jagraon is an important religious center for Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims as well as Jains. This group of missionaries seems to be comprised primarily of women and includes at least two children. The album includes photographs of the people served by the Christian mission, as well as local hospital workers and educators. There are several photographs of the local people in extreme circumstances, including being ravaged by disease and starvation. Photographs of indigenous people at work and in traditional dress. Compiled by the ladies of the St. Francis Street Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Mobile, Alabam. Very scarce, important early cookbook with the first appearance of recipe for Jambalaya (here called Jam Bolaya). Much Creole cuisine, preceding the New Orleans Creole cookery books. Spine ends chipped, front corners bumped, front hinge starting. Very Good overall.

[Staten Island]: E. T. Clegg, 1901. 14 " x 11 " Leather over hard boards, embossed with gilt lettering. All edges gilt. 10 leaves; 20 albumen print photographs mounted recto and verso, on heavy board. All prints measure 7 3/8 by 9 3/8 inches. The front flyleaf credits the photographer: Mr. E. T. Clegg. Twenty photographs feature the architecture, buildings, and grounds of the historic Sailor's Snug Harbor taken in 1901. The photographer, Edward T. Clegg, became a resident of the Sailor's Snug Harbor in April 1891 at the age of 65, and lived there until his death in November of 1910. Clegg was born in England and went to sea at the age of 18, serving on a British Man of War (1854-1857). In his early 20's, he became a seaman on an American whaling ship (1858-1864); Clegg spent his middle years in Michigan, fishing and sailing on the Great Lakes before moving to the northeast, and eventually settling in his retirement in the Sailor's Snug Harbor. Octavo, original publisher's blind stamped green cloth, decorated and lettered in gilt. Floral endpapers. Very Good to near fine with a small short split at top of spine cloth. Very scarce title.

Habana [Havana]: Imprenta Fernandez Solana Y Ca. - Obsequio De La Cia Cervecera Internacional S. A., 1927. First Edition. Original 'R. Lillo' illustrated wrappers, 185 pages, 6 3/4 by 4 inches. Very scarce Cuban produced cocktail recipe guide including several hundred recipes. Credited for containing the first appearance in print of the Mary Pickford cocktail. A lovely copy of this title which presents Cuban influenced cocktails. WorldCat locates no copies of this original printing. Very Good, mild signs of use.

London: Edward Arnold and New York Samuel Buckley & Co., 1903. Number 114 of 150 copies, all printed on vellum. Printed at The Essex House Press, Campden, Gloucestershire, with a frontispiece by W. Strang. Small Octavo, original vellum with gilt lettered spine, and with Arts and Crafts rose in blind with "Soul is Form" in blind. Near fine with light foxing on rear cover; ex-libris bookplate of prior owner on front pastedown.

New York: J. H. Colton, 1844. First edition. 12mo, original brown blind stamped cloth with gilt lettering on front cover.Map of West Point in color, 13 inches wide and 16 inches tall serves as frontispiece. Map is complete and with no tears. Very good condition with some foxing.

New York: G. W. & C. B. Colton, 1884. Duodecimo, 5 x 3 1/2 inches. Folding lithographed map (13 4/8 x 16 4/8 inches) with original hand color in outline and in part. Original brown cloth over boards, gilt lettering at front cover, blindstamped decorations at covers, yellow ad front pastedown. A later edition, but still a scarce map showing most of Texas and the United States south of the 34th parallel, first published in 1854, reissued in 1861 with editions including Spencer's Ranch, Fort Leaton, Eagle Press, Palafox, Rio Grande City are all shown along with the Texas border. Railroads are now shown running through Texas and across to California, and between Veracruz and Mexico City; the Texas, Pacific and the Southern Pacific railroads are named. Colton had begun publishing maps in New York in the 1830s. Between 1831 and 1890, the Colton firm dominated American map publishing, although Colton had no formal training in geography or cartigraphy. Neily was the lead sportswriter for the Chicago American who cast his vote for Babe Ruth to win the American League MVP in 1923. Humorous collection of baseball verse. Near Fine in attractive Very Good plus dustjacket, few short closed tears.

Signed first trade editions are very scarce, especially in the dust jacket as here.Octavo, original green cloth, pictorial endpapers. Near Fine in Very Good dustjacket with chips at top and bottom of spine, edge wear to top edge, and tape reinforcement along 3/4ths of the front panel at the spine.

Considered a classic of Civil War literature, exceptionally scarce in dustjacket. Very Good, cloth with general darkening and sporadic surface erosion to cloth which is common for this title, contemporary gift inscription (from a Pennsylvania man to his Tennessee friend) in Very Good original 19th Century dustjacket, with some chipping at top spine end, expected wear and soiling, light stain at top rear panel.
