"[E]laborated with great precision by a 'chef' wishing to remain in the most secret anonymity" (colophon), this fantastical cookbook features fifty-six recipes including many from Lasserre, Maxim's, la Tour d'Argent, and le Buffet de la gare de Lyon, many of which featured in Dalí and Gala's extravagant dinner parties. Illustrated with color photographs of the dishes and the restaurants, some with Dali at table; also included are twelve "hors texte" designed by Dali and signed - in the print - for this publication. Lucien Louis Daniel (1856-1940) was a French botanist and professor of applied botany at the University of Rennes. With Ivan Michurin he is recognized as the founder of the science of the means of directed transformation of plants. His main works are on pomology, the phylloxera question, grafting and the viticultural crisis and the mysteries of symbiotic heredity. Introduction (pages 5 - 22), Catalogue Raisonne (pages 145-148), and Notes (pages 149-161) by Professor Philippe Robert-Jones, Director of the Musees Royaux. Some light age-toning to top edge of the tan cloth; otherwise fine. Illustrated dust jacket has a few very small spots to edges. Lacking additional unprinted acetate.

It was in this book that her full voice was first truly heard. A book to be read as much as cooked from, and then read again. With some stains to text and with publisher's edgeworn blue cloth; lacking the dust jacket. Priced accordingly.

[London: Elizabeth David Ltd. Kitchen Utensils, 1969. Booklet, stapled in wrappers (14.7 x 11.8 cm.), [2], 24 pages. FIRST SEPARATE EDITION; originally issued in Queen magazine on December 4, 1968. A small but authoritative pamphlet on English bread baking from Elizabeth David, (1913-1992), the author of the later English Bread and Yeast Cookery (1977). This is one in the series of eight little books by David, mostly issued from her shop in Pimlico, Elizabeth David Ltd., Kitchen Utensils. Fine, in printed, tan card stock wrappers, titles and with a design in black, and with none of the sticker adhesion marks normally found.

London, 1977. Three unpublished pen and ink sketches by Wendy Jones on tracing paper pasted to white board, with some use of correction fluid. Contained in a large folder (37 x 29 cm.) titled "Sketches for bread book Wendy Jones". The bread book is Elizabeth David's English Bread and Yeast. The first board (21.5 x 19 cm.) contains two images: two measuring cups and a kitchen scale. The second board (12.5 x 12 cm.) is a drawing of a loaf tin. Image three (15 x 12 cm.) is of a dough bin. Also included are eight pages of designer's paste-up "for an article on pies" according to a note on the first paste-up. Laid into the paste-up is a single leaf of notes and rough drawings, possibly in David's hand. Paste-ups good only. The sketches have some age-toning to tracing paper, corners of boards bumped in some cases, otherwise fine.

One-page advertisement for Richard J Davie's "Animal Slinging Railway," patented on July 18, 1882. These meat hangers are "strong" and "light" and come in three sizes. Chester D. Holmes is indicated as the agent for the patentee and uses the lower quarter of the page to advertise various refrigerators for which he lays no claim for patent. Slight edge-wear and age toning, otherwise very good.

Richmond, VA: The Dietz Press, Incorporated, 1966. Comb-bound octavo (21.5 x 15 cm.), 215 pages. Index. Color stencil-printed covers. Second printing, originally issued 1956. Collection of recipes for "tropical" ingredients from around the world, arranged ingredient with chapter headings such as, the Kumquat, the Coconut, the Pineapple, the Banana. Each section has an introductory essay on the ingredient. The author's intention was to feature ingredients easily found in the states, which had at one point seemed "strange fruits of distant lands." Only the slightest of rubbing to the color illustrated cover panel, otherwise fine.

FIRST EDITION, published by the author herself; soon after the work was published "Aux Magasins du Bon Marchè". Two hundred menus, with recipes, arranged in alphabetical order. Although the book appears to be aimed at the French household cook, many of the recipes reflect cooking at the grand restaurants of the era. Some sample dishes: Grenouilles a la Dumas, Ecrivisses en Honchet, Petits oiseaux au fumet, and Poitrine d'agneau Sainte-Menehould. Age-toning throughout, in printed pale blue cloth with some rubbing and light soiling; tape adhesion marks to front and rear paste-downs. Near very good. De Groot writes of his meals at an inn, L'Auberge de l'Atre Fleuri in St-Pierre-de-Chartreuse, in the Savoy region of France. A sensitive description and collection of recipes of the Jews of Poland. About one third of the book is description of the various groups of Jews in cities in Poland, and of their thoughts on food; the remainder and bulk of the book is dedicated to recipes, given in some detail. The compiler, Édouard de Pomiane (1875-1964), was the founder of "gastrotechnie", and professor at the Institute Scientifique d'Hygiène Alimentaire. In photo-illustrated wrappers. Fine.
