English translation by Kenneth Scott.  Danckaerts' second journal, consisting of sixteen pages of foolscap, records his departure from the Netherlands on April 12, 1683 and the crossing of the Atlantic, ending with his arrival at New York on July 27.  It contains an interesting account of items bought for sale or use in the New World.  It presents, moreover, a graphic picture of a transatlantic voyage in the 17th century.  We obtained this book directly from the publisher over fifty years ago, it has never been privately owned.
