In Literary Figures one of the worlds finest book artists the late (1934-2009) Joe D'Ambrosio. In Literary Figures D'Ambrosio is experimenting with communicating the writing styles of ten known authors, ( Joyce-Steinbeck-Fowles- Shirley jackson-Andre Gide- Mann- Durrell-Agee-Tolstoy and Zola) through graphic imagery. The images are printed on different kinds of paper. The individual; color and texture of the paper acts as a background and becomes an integral part of the image, The paper is tipped into place only at the top so the viewer may lift its lower edge and feel its surface. Serigraphy and letter press printing were used to create the graphic prints. Even though there are 10 authors represented, there are eleven prints in the book. To assure that the prints remain in sequence, the folios are bound within a clam-shell box. This folio is beautiful as new and… Read More

Little, Brown & Company, Boston: Toronto, 1983. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. As new first edition/first printing quarter bound in black cloth over blue boards with a like priced (13.95) jacket, is a fast paced fun read about a Midwestern underachiever Anthony Thrasher who got his eight grade teacher in trouble. With his familiar offhand elegance, the author spins us a ribald tale that in the wrong hands might have gone amiss as a sensitive study of hearts at bay, or worse, yet another tenderly perceptive portrayal of a young man's coming of age. No worry, Tony becomes wise for his years overnight though it is a few months before Miss Maggie Doubloon realizes her life long wish not to look like a school teacher. The action moves from North Dakota to Kalamazoo ( my home town). An exceptionally fine book by an exceptional author.

Priced (25.95) dust jacket is near fine, and would be as new but for a price tag at the verso that was ripped off. In 1864, after Union general William Tecumseh Sherman burned Atlanta, he marched his sixty thousand troops east through Georgia to the sea, and then up into the Carolinas. Doctorow chronicled the march and its participants. Only a master novelist could so powerfully and compassionately render the lives of those who marched. The book is a stunning achievement in story telling and historical facts combined with fine fiction. This novel would make a fine addition to any Civil War library. Seller Inventory # 001819
