In this case, Philip Larkin's poem, "Church Going," follows Dahl's story. Each of the 48 pamphlets in the series is 24 pages (including illustrated covers) printed on both sides of a single sheet folded up like a map. Fine. Increasingly scarce. Interesting, presumed book-club copy with "This was written by a friend of mine and if you don't like it you are to be sure and tell me. Edson" on front pastedown, and "Bonar" in pencil at head of front free endpaper with the signature of "Irene B. Crolliers, Taylorstown Pennsylvania" beneath. Near fine lacking a dust jacket, if issued in one.

A guide "For Visitors and Residents....With Notes on Their History, Geology, Climate, Health and Disease, Farming, Gardening, Indigenous Vegetation, and Laws." Decoratively blind-stamped, flexible, gray cloth boards with gilt lettered front and spine. Good to very good with covers soiled and a little edge worn.

Philadelphia: American Philosophical Society, 1971. Facsimile of the letter, with typescript and explanation. Printed at the Stinehour Press for the Friends of the Library. Large, stapled paperwraps with cover serving as title page. Fine in original mailing envelope which shows light wear.

Bright and near fine in very good dust jacket with shallow chipping, few creased tears, and spine somewhat toned and showing few small stains. Creases from folding otherwise near fine. The Sullivans were friends and former students of Davidson at Vanderbilt University. With a typewritten title page dated "(1991)" at bottom followed by Davies' handwritten, undated title page with Samuel Butler quote ("Printers finde by experience that one Murther is worth two Monsters...") that appears prior to the contents page in published version. TOGETHER WITH a copy of the true first edition published in Canada by McClelland & Stewart in 1991. A brief comparison between the two shows the contents pages differ (section titles are not altogether the same) and p.265 in the proof (p.269 in published version) lacks a line - leading us to believe it is safe to assume there are other differences. Altogether near fine.

Gibson and with full-length "Gibson Girl" on front cover. Dark yellow cloth stamped in dark blue and gilt on front and dark blue on spine. About very good with boards relatively bright but spine tanned and spine lettering a little rubbed. [Quinby 14, BAL 4525].

Small 8vo green cloth boards stamped in gilt, red, and dark green on front and spine. About very good with old damp stain along upper and outside edge of rear board, rumple to head of spine but boards crisp and stamping bright.
