Hardcover, this is the salesman sample for the book The Treasury of Song, published in 1892. The book contains numerous highlights of the original book and was used by businesses to entice people to order the actual book. This copy was never used as all the subscriber pages are still blank. There are small pink slips throughout that are tipped-in and are used to advertise specific songs that may be ordered separately. The front cover is dark orange in the rear board shows the dark brown option, inside on the front pastedown are examples of the spines of both binding options. Included with the book is everything that was found inside: there is a small sheet of what feels like a lead, though it looks like tinfoil - only heavier. Boston, MA: C. E. Brown & Co., 1894. Hardcover. Good-. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, the tan cloth boards with green design on front and spine. Boards show quite a bit of spotting and soiling. Interior binding is good though rear board has a hinge opening at the top 2 inches and the small tear at the bottom of the end page hinge area. Pages are quite toned due to age and type of paper used. No signatures or bookplates, no marked up pages found. Even the " Blank pages for additional recipes" contains no handwriting. There were a couple old newspaper clippings found inside the book. As the paper was not reacting with the pages we left them in there.

Washington, DC: Review and Herald Publishing Assn., 1898. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG-. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, light brown cloth boards with woodgrain look to the finish, front front board decorated in red and green scuffing and some light soiling, edges and corners show some light bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no handwriting, no remainder marks, nothing torn or loose. Pages are toned due to age and there is some minor scattered spotting and foxing, though this is mainly limited to the end pages and pastedowns.

London: J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd., 1951. Revised edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. A. C. Harradine. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, decorated tan boards with green cloth to spine. Exterior shows toning along with some light spotting. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues, no signatures or bookplates, no library markings. The only handwriting found in the book is on the front end page, where you can barely make out that a price was once penciled in the corner and then later erased.

Leipzig: Breitkopf und Härtel, 1880. Hardcover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original dark red cloth boards half bound in leather two corners and spine. The exterior shows heavy wear to the edges and corners in the spine shows a very old reinforcement of a thick textured material. Dark brown end pages in front and rear are free of any handwriting or bookplates, no library markings, no signatures. The text pages themselves are tight but there is a large opening at the first title page and it is possible the black reinforcement on the outside of the book may be the only thing holding the front board on. There is also a split at one of the rear end page areas. This book contains two title pages, the first one (Dritter Band) contains 488 pages, and the other section (Vierter Band) also contains 488 pages (976 total). Softcover, original 1924 publication in original wraps - not a modern reprint or rebound library copy. Front and rear cover (and also an interior page) contains the name stamp of F. C. Schrader and this is also stamped inside the book. Frank Charles Schrader (1860-1944) of Harvard and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) was a well-known and respected American geologist, mineralogist, and entomologist, and author. He was known throughout the west as the prospector's friend and was also one of the first federal geologists to explore Alaska. Exterior wraps show only minor spotting and toning along edges. This copy would have been listed as near fine to fine condition but there is a small chip on the left edge of the front cover. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. Original price of $2.50 is still present on the front flap. DJ is tattered and worn with numerous chipping and tearing to edges, along with soiling spots and toning. Yellow cloth boards underneath are still bright but book shows edge and corner bumps along with a few spots. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues present. Paper is toned due to age and some minor spotting is noted. Front end page contains a tipped-in card stating this is a review copy from the publisher with a future publication date of June 12, 1946. At the top of this page there is also evidence of something that was once penciled and then later erased - one word is written in red pencil in the remnants that's in the upper right corner is likely old pricing from a previous bookseller. DJ is torn and tattered with numerous small chunks missing along with some scuffing/soiling. Red cloth boards underneath or clean with only very minor edge bumping/wear as the jacket did a excellent job of protecting it all of these years. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. Only evidence of handwriting is on the front and page, upper right corner, where you could just make out where a price was once penciled and then later erased. Pages are clean but end pages and pastedowns show toning due to reacting with the jacket.

Front board and spine is dark blue but rear board is bright blue. Floral end pages in front and rear contain no handwriting or bookplates. Green cloth boards with gilt on front and spine. 194 pages plus 58 page publisher's catalog in back of book. Pages are toned and foxing is present, mainly on the end pages. Previous bookseller's price was written in pencil on both the upper right corner of the front pastedown and upper right corner of the front end page. Both were later erased but you could still see the indentations and residue. The boards are clean and gilt is still strong. Cellophane wrap has tear at top of spine with a chunk missing. Condition graded as VG plus in a good clear cellophane dust jacket. See photos.

DJ is toned and shows some spotting and scuffing, edges and corners also show bumps/light one. Brown exterior wraps underneath are clean and without issues. The internal binding is good and pages are tight. There are no signatures or bookplates, no handwriting, no library markings. NOTE: there is a red dot on the bottom edge, which is likely a remainder mark. Some slivers of the red could be seen on the pages as well, which you can see on the photo of the title page. The end paginated pages are clean although there is some light foxing spots which are mainly present on the end pages.

Mt. Pleasant, SC: Published by the Author, 1984. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Large softcover, light gray exterior decorated on front and rear. The spine has the title and author's name written by hand. Exterior shows creases on front and back along with soiling and spotting. Interior binding is good, no hinge issues. Inscribed and signed by the author on the dedication page to a crewmember of the USS Pope. This same page shows another signature and address as well - this one being Vice Admiral Edward A. Parker, who was the Lt. Cmdr and Commander of the USS Parrott at the time. The opposite page, which is the underside of the cover sews the original owner's name and address of which the book is inscribed to (Lionel A. Normandin of the USS Pope - DD-225). Hardcover, maroon cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Interior shows minor edge and corner bumps with cloth is clean and still shiny. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No hinge issues, no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting. Paper is toned due to age and front and rear end pages show a light tone mark, likely caused by the paper reacting to a cover that was once on the book. This is an attractive copy with the only issues being the lower outside corner bumps on both boards and two areas along the right side of the front board where there are edge bumps. First edition thus with single publication date of October 1906 listed on the copyright page.

Philadelphia, PA: J. C. McCurdy & Co., 1882. Hardcover. VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Thick hardcover, original brown cloth elaborately decorated in black and gilt. All exterior page edges gilt. Exterior shows minor corner bumping and edge wear to spine edges. Dark greyish-green end pages. Previous owner's name and date neatly penciled in the corner. No hinge cracks though the dark end pages show thin cracking to the finish of the page, and not the actual paper itself. Overall pages are clean and binding is tight, no torn or loose pages noted. Foxing is present though mainly limited to where the illustrations are in the reaction of two different types of paper. Foxing issue also includes the title page because of the frontispiece. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original full leather binding with gilt and red label to spine. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The leather at the exterior hinge points is starting to crack, with the worst being the rear board. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight though one of the rear end pages is missing. The title page bears the signature of Alexander Pitt Buchanan (Maryland and Virginia). There is also quite a bit of handwriting, mostly in pencil, on the front end pages and pastedown as well as the rear and page. This penciling includes signatures from the second owner: Mr. Oliver Faulkner of Winchester VA. The text pages appear unmarked though they are darkened with age and foxing is present throughout. Exterior shows spotting/fade on the bottom outside corner of both sides. This was likely caused by moisture but has not affected the interior pages or pastedowns. Internal pages are secure though webbing is thinly exposed at pages 16/17 where the book was opened too far. Page 17 also has a minor corner crease. Front end page is a gift inscription and a small stain which is also present on the front pastedown.

New York: George H. Doran Company, 1925. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG-/Poor. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Contains tipped in presentation note from the Reverend S. Parkes Cadman from the Central Congregational Church of New York. Dust jacket is in poor shape and is in two pieces, DJ has been placed in a protective sleeve after photos were taken. Red cloth boards underneath shows fading/dampstain along the top edge though is mainly limited to the corners and spine area. This issue does not affect the interior pages. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight, no hinge issues. Front pastedown contains the bookplate of Professor W. H. Stout as well as the business card from Reverend Cadman. Exterior is scuffed and soiled with a some small bubbles in the cloth. Paper label is quite darkened as is spine and spine edges show chipping. Edges and corners show bumps/wear. The internal front hinge is a thin crack to the paper on the frontispiece, rear hinge appears good. Presumed first US edition with date of 1873 appearing on the title page. Several sections of the pages are still uncut though page 294/295 and 326/327 show tearing at the bottom where the original owner attempted to separate the pages by hand. This is a uncommon US printing as there are no publishers advertising pages, nothing printed on what would normally be the copyright page and line 1 of page 208 contains the correct spelling of "that".
