Gaitan Cortes was an architect, urban developer, administrator and politician in Bogotá. He was one of only two mayors of Bogotá who were architects by training and profession. His impact during the 1960s civil war and "la violencia" in continuing to modernize Bogota was significant and he is considered to be one of the most important urban designers/administrators in 20th century Colombia.
