Norway 2000. Lions and demons, body fragments, harlequins, apes and American Indians: diversity in subject matter has become a hallmark of Bjørn Ransve’s complex artistic production. Eckhoff, art historian and Curator at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo, traces and explores connections between the diverse motives in Ransve’s art. His various approaches to merging fundamental qualities – figure, image and means of depiction – bridge many of modernism’s yearnings with the great artistic tradition. An illuminating monograph about one of this generation’s most prominent Norwegian artists. , English, Year2000, Illust. B/W134, Illust. Color97, ISBN 8246700480, Code 4308. Description:
Denmark 2002. Oluf Høst was a Danish painter born in 1884 in Svaneke on the island of Bornholm. One of his greatest influences was Cezanne who was ideal in his artistic matters, though Høst emphasized a great difference between their work due to a major difference in their surroundings. For this reason, Høst felt anchored in a Nordic tradition. “This exhibition presents some essential aspects of an artist whose activities spread over a wide field: So it is the nature romantic, the landscape artist, the minimalist, the colourist as well as the metaphysical Høst that come into play in this exhibition.” This book also includes discussion of the landscapes in which he paints and the major themes of the exhibition., Danish / English, Year2002, Illust. Filled with colorful illustrations of paintings, this splendid book captures the turbulence and artistic fervor of this era while its essays explore the different manifestations in each Scandinavian country. Denmark 2014. This beautifully designed and illustrated book documents the conception, design and building of the new exhibition building of the Moesgaard Museum. Description:
New York 1995. The first open-air museum in the world, Skansen shows how people lived and worked in the past in different parts of Sweden by reassembling actual historical buildings. From a storehouse dating from the 14th century, to a 20th-century farmhouse, stylistically the range of architecture is enormous. We move from the summer pasture farm, with its medieval wooden construction, through the classical elegance of a late 18th century manor, to impressive merchant houses, to the functional timber frame of a town hall, from mills to churches. Gardens and interiors have been painstakingly recreated. This gorgeous book transports the reader back in time, and it will be beloved by all who have any interest in Sweden, and its architecture, art, or social history., English, Year1995, Illust. Description:
Washington DC 1998. On the occasion of a touring exhibition of this Scandinavian artist’s work, this book gorgeously depicts the sculptures that led to his world renown, with essays on his life and work as well as his impressive home Millesgården in Sweden. Milles (1875-1955) was classically trained and his early work displays the influence of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture, in addition to the influence of Auguste Rodin, his teacher and mentor. Because he created numerous public works in the U.S., citizens from cities across the country still delight in his sculptures with their slightly abstracted human forms that convey a fanciful, perhaps Nordic, sense of the spirituality in his mythological, religious and imaginative subjects. , English, Year1998, Illust.
