Scarce personal reminiscences of Conway's 1892 Karakoram expedition.Eckenstein (1859 – 1921), was a member of the expedition led by Sir Martin Conway to the Baltoro Muztagh region in 1892. Unfortunately Conway and Eckenstein did not get on, and Eckenstein withdrew from the expedition after six months. In Kashmir, he conducted bouldering contests for the locals - a form of free climbing without the use of ropes or harnesses. Eckenstein collected his letters and diary notes from this expedition into the present book.Nowadays he is best known as the inventor of the modern crampon and as an innovator in climbing technique and mountaineering equipment. He was the leader of the first serious expedition to attempt to climb K2. Yakushi E10.

A group of four plates of Russian military uniforms from Saemmtliche Truppen von Europa in Characteristilchen Gruppen after drawings by Eckert and Monten. Moshe Edrehi (c. 1774-1842) was a Moroccan scholar and itinerant preacher in North Africa who travelled to London in 1791, where he studied in the Sephardic Bet Midrash Etz Hayyim, preaching there every Sabbath. A child prodigy and he had started preaching at the age of 14. Lamenting that Wilhelm has been forbidden by his father, the last German Emperor, Wilhelm II, from visiting him at Windsor ('...unhappily your papa objects to your going away to England this year...') and expressing regret that he is unable to renew his acquaintance with Wilhelm's new wife Cecile.Edward VII was renowned for his diplomatic skills, the French referring to him as 'the Peacemaker'; however, his relations with his nephew, the Kaiser, were strained. It is interesting to see in this letter to the Kaiser's eldest son, the Crown Prince, that although an adult, married and shortly to become a father he was still forbidden to visit his great uncle in England. The Kaiser was notoriously difficult, tactless and irascible, traits that ultimately led to the catastrophic First World War and his forced abdication.

The rare Zürich edition of this lavishly illustrated work, first published in 1727. The work opens with a series of 7 attractive plates of various horse breeds and their characteristics ('l'Andaloux', 'le Barbe', 'l'Allemand', 'Napolitain', 'Cheval Anglois', 'Cheval Turc', and 'l'Arabe'), while the remainder of the plates are accompanied by letterpress instructions on all manner of horseriding.The dedication is dated Zürich, 1 May 1743. Earlier editions have 59 plates, there being four plates of horse bits.

The true first issue of this satirical work, written and designed in the style of the classic Ladybird Reading Scheme books. In order to fund publication, Miriam Elia published a handful of pages online which quickly became popular and helped her raise the initial £5,000 required. The first edition ran to 1,000 copies and swiftly sold out; however, it also incurred a legal threat from Ladybird, forcing her to change the names of the characters as well as the fake imprint for the next edition. Ladybird subsequently published their own satirical reading books, which proved popular, prompting the artist to publish We sue an artist (and then rip off her idea). Egoist - under the direction of Ezra Pound - produced in wartime conditions just 500 copies. They were not built to last and copies in unrestored condition are genuinely uncommon. Pound's tireless commitment and dedication to Eliot and his poetry, how to get it published and appreciated by a wider audience, prompted Eliot to write this pamphlet, though anonymously in order to avoid accusation of mutual promotion. Pound suggested the title and the pamphlet was published early in January 1918, carefully timed to tie in with another Knopf publication, Ezra Pound's Lustra. Gallup A2.
