Macmillan and Co. London, 1902 FIRST EDITION. Octavo bound in the original art nouveau cloth binding, 461 pages. The cloth cover is heavily decorated with gilt titles and green and white vines and roses. A near fine copy with a trifling amount of wear to the extremities. Inner hinge cracked but solid. Contemporary inscription on front free endpaper in pencil. A beautiful copy of a well known and loved early gardening book.

An attractive and highly useful book with sections on Wall, Paved, Marsh and Water gardens. Illustrated with 8 colour plates mounted on heavy stock and 50 photographic plates and diagrams. A fine copy in the original pictorial dust wrapper which has a bit of minor soiling and wear. Unusual to find this nice English garden book in the dust wrapper.

This issue also has an article by Charles Keeler on The Furnishing of a Home which precedes his book "The Simple Home" in 1906. The text is essentially the same but there are some differences reflecting his ongoing thoughts on what a home should be. Age toning to several leaves, frontispiece (a Christmas card laid in) is lacking, slight wear to fore edge and corners but still a near fine copy with clear, bright colors and the text well printed. New York Random House 1967 First printing INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY AUTHOR. A blue cloth octavo withprinting in yellow, orange and purple. Slight fading of blue cloth along top edges. A little fading to bottom of spine, 1/4 inch spot of cloth discoloration to top of spine. The dark green pictorial dust jacket has slight edge wear and crease on back flap, otherwise clean and bright with the original price of $5.95 intact. Ink inscription on front free endpaper: "For Sidney fondly Stanley 11/25/68. Hardcover Very Good very good

Concord N.H.: G. F. Bemis, 1835. First edition, first state with signature mark 3 absent. Bound with the ORIGINAL BLUE WRAPPERS present. Recent cloth backed marble boards, uncut as issued. Scattered foxing throughout, several leaves with slight tears to fore edge, wrappers archivally backed but still a nice copy of Emerson's first separately published book or substantial publication preceded only by contributions to journals and a broadside. The rarity of this pamphlet can be explained by the small number of copies and the fire in the town clerk's office that destroyed many of them. Quite scarce in any condition but especially so with the wrappers as most copies were rebound and the wrappers discarded, losing printed elements important to scholars and collectors. Two elusive pieces of paper, being to Mr. Emerson's Discourse what dust wrappers are to modern first editions.

London: George G. Harrap, n.d. (1910). Octavo, 241 pages, bound in full vellum with gilt titles and Art Nouveau ruled borders on both the upper cover and spine. Top edge gilt. Portrait frontispiece. There is overall soiling to the vellum, else this is a handsome copy of one of the "Harrap Library" series, in a restrained binding that suits the work of Mr. Emerson.

Gilt ruling and decoration, blind ruling on covers. Early, tasteful small bookplate on front pastedown as well as a Glasgow binders ticket (J. Carss & Co.) Small octavo, Overall a very pleasing copy.

University of London Press, London, 1936 Small quarto bound in original brick-colored cloth with gilt titles on the upper cover and spine, 272 pages. This exceptional reference work on the Art and Craft of metalwork is illustrated with 76 plates, including many fine photographs of finely produced objects. The book is quite rare and particularly in this state of preservation. It was once the property of the High School for Boys in Hereford, England and bears their ownership stamp on the title page, rear endpaper and a couple of margins..no circulating library stamps or marks on the binding or contents. Aside from a dime size spot of fading on the back cover and a trace of wrinkling to the top of the free endpaper, this is a fine copy indeed of an elusive title.
