Description:
A recapitualtion of a boyhood in the West (Albuquerque, New Mexico) -- and what that contributed to a "consciousness in the making". A shy, a social, solitary child, Harvey Fergusson found in the quiet, the freedom, the world of nature which that country offered, much that accorded with his temperament. Here are random reminiscences of his forebear, his first friends, background at the turn of the century, the diversions and taboos of Albuquerque society, his escape from the world to the out-of-doors where he found serenity; his early sexual indoctrination. The focus is very definitely personal and granted the reader's share in the author's interest in the subject, this may occasion certain attention. For the most part, however, readers will find it limited in import, too lyrically self-centered.

Description:
Finally, social scientists have begun to attempt to understand religious behavior rather than to discredit it as irrational, ignorant, or foolish--and Rodney Stark and Roger Finke have played a major role in this new approach. Acknowledging that science cannot assess the supernatural side of religion (and therefore should not claim to do so), Stark and Finke analyze the observable, human side of faith. In clear and engaging prose, the authors combine explicit theorizing with animated discussions as they move from considering the religiousness of individuals to the dynamics of religious groups and then to the religious workings of entire societies as religious groups contend for support. The result is a comprehensive new paradigm for the social-scientific study of religion. This book has some water damage in the top right-hand corner. All writing is legible.

Book is in Near Fine Condition and in the Original Dust Jacket. As Spoken by Fisher:The purpose of the lectures which are the basis of this book was not to tell the story of the American-Russian relations, but to discuss aspects of those relations that bear upon American-Russian collaboration in the world community. The point of view presented is this book. The previous owner was given this book as a gift in 1946 for Christmas. (See Photo)
First, the great revolution through which the world is now passing, has profoundly changed international relations and has made a world community possible and a world organization necessary.
Second, the heaviest responsibility for the organization of peace rests upon America and Russia; in fact, without the collaboration of these two countries the organization of peace is impossible.
Third, although Russia and America have never been at war with each other, collaboration has been and will be difficult.
Fourth, the very real differences which make our relations… Read More

Imaging finding a book from the late 1800 with a love note dedicating this book to Miss Carrie Duke. Rare edition thus. Hardcover. Orig. spine that is intact but needs restoration. Front and back cover intact. I searched the internet intensively and found pictures of first editions HOWEVER none of them had the love dedication note or the black trim around the title of the book.
