Handsome later binding by Maclehose, Glasgow, brown calf with elaborate gilt decorations and fillets, gilt spine with five raised bands, gilt dentelles on turn-ins, marbled endpapers, t.e.g., rest uncut; original wrappers bound in, slightly rubbed at joints and end, occasional minor spotting. 1890. Graphite and crayon in color with white heightening on cream wove paper, 13 1/2 x 12 1/4 inches (343 x 310 mm) (sheet). In good condition with uniform toning, handling creases, and lightly dog-eared corners. The building on the left is a hotel particulier in Paris' Marais neighborhood, the Hôtel Salé, which now houses the Musée Picasso.

1919. Etching on cream wove paper, 8 1/8 x 9 3/4 inches (205 x 246 mm), full margins. Signed in pencil, lower right margin. One minor printing defect appearing as a slightly folded bottom sheet edge. Unobtrusive, and well outside of image area, a charming relic of the hand-pressed printing process. Otherwise in excellent condition. [Fisher 126]. A bright and well inked image of one of the only two surviving medieval gates to the city of Winchester, UK, the name of which was first recorded in 1148 AD.

1866. Etching with drypoint and engraving on Japan paper, 11 5/8 x 8 3/8 inches (294 x 212 mm), full margins. A later impression of this image which includes remarque in the margins may be found in the permanent collection of the Rijks Museum, Amsterdam. Although the identity of the sitter remains lost to history, she bears a striking resemblance to Maria Best Pabst, wife of famed brewer Captain Frederick Pabst.

Engraving on light wove paper with a large Amsterdam Coat of Arms watermark, 9 5/16 x 7 1/2 inches (236 x 190 mm), narrow margins. Scattered light areas of discoloration, handling creases and pencil notations on the verso.

c 20th century. Etching on hand made laid paper with a partial watermark, 3 7/8 x 5 7/8 inches (98 x 148 mm), full margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin. With a reciept indicating the work is ex-collection The Old Curiosity Shop, the 16th century mercantile immortalized by Charles Dickens in his 1841 novel of the same name.

1820. Pen and sepia ink on cream laid paper, 8 3/4 x 5 3/8 inches (222 x 136 mm). Scattered paper tape repairs on the verso in the area of the upper left corner, and along the right sheet edge. Hard vertical crease along the bottom sheet edge, approximately 1-inch from the bottom of the sheet. Pencil inscriptions on the verso. The image appears to have been trimmed in half, with the left portion of the design lacking.

1800. Graphite and pen and ink on bluish-gray laid paper, 4 1/4 x 2 inches (118 x 50 mm). The ink is slightly attenuated, and there is uniform age tone. The bottom two corners are adhered to a paper mount with archival adhesive. On the verso there is some gray ink wash spatter, and several light pin-point sized spots of discoloration, otherwise in good condition.

1860. Red crayon on brown light-wove paper, 6 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches (172 x 121 mm). Light toning and extremely minor, small losses at the very extreme top right and left corners (1/8-inch).

Lithograph on heavy weight wove paper, 12 3/8 x 16 3/8 inches (313 x 416 mm), full margins. Titled and signed (illegibly) in pencil, lower margins. With scattered notations in red pencil and graphite on the recto in the margins, and on the verso. Ink stamp on the verso. Soft vertical fold in the center-sheet, otherwise in good condition.

Ink and wash on hand made, cool-toned cream laid paper, 6 3/4 x 8 7/8 inches (170 x 224 mm), top margin slightly trimmed. Partial watermark of a shield with two horns, upper right corner. The deckle edge along the sheet top has been trimmed out, the three other deckle edges appear to be full. Three or so very minor spots of foxing appear on the verso, none of which are visible through to the recto. Paper tape remnants at top right and left corner, verso, also not visible through to the recto. A lovely composition, in very good condition. In this charming scene a maid appears bashful as she is introduced by her mother to the shepherd's son.

1790. Pencil on cream laid paper, 10 x 8 3/4 inches (254 x 222 mm). Uniform age tone, scattered surface soiling, and handling wear. One pea-sized area of skinning in the top-center sheet area. Repaired 3-inch horizontal edge tear at the right sheet edge, mended on the verso with 19th century paper tape. Light horizontal fold across the sheet center, and paper tape remnants on the verso.

1890. Pencil on cream laid paper, 8 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches ( 215 x 185 mm). Toning over-all with paper tape remnants and notations in pencil on the verso.

1850. Pencil and brush and brownish-gray ink on cream laid paper, adhered to an archival paper mount at each corner, 3 3/4 x 5 1/8 inches (95 x 130 mm). Significant condition issues include staining, repaired tears, surface soiling, and a detatached (but intact) lower right corner.

Pen and ink with wash on watermarked J Whatman 1814 paper, 11 x 8 1/4 (280 x 210 mm). Scattered minor edge losses at the left sheet edge, well outside of image area. Minor handling wear, otherwise in very good condition. A truly masterful drawing by an unknown draughtsman.

Red chalk on cream wove paper 10 1/8 x 8 3/8 inches (256 x 212 mm), top margin slightly trimmed. One ¼-inch vertical edge tear at center-left top margin (unobtrusive). Two spots of light brown discoloration at left-lower sheet quadrant. Notation in top left corner reading "No 7" in black ink. Additional Notations in black ink at bottom sheet edge, largely illegible, possibly a date, V...X Année. Extremely light blue chalk score under ink notations at top and bottom. Visible with a blacklight, or in raking light. Surface soiling and several spots of light, circular discoloration, verso, unobtrusive and not visible on the recto.
