This is the fourth printing of Rails to the Tableland, The Story of the Cairns Railway, published by the Australian Railway Historical Society in 1976 and a best-seller for many years.
It is the fascinating story of the history, construction and operation of the Cairns Railway, both main and branch lines. It includes detailed descriptions of the sections, including the Chillagoe Co.'s main line and branches, the Cairns Range Railway, the Milla Milla branch, the Mulgrave Tramway and the North Coast line.
It is illustrated throughout with black and white photos (and a 2 page color section) as well as several maps. With rosters of steam locomotives, passenger cars (including railmotors), and freight equipment as well as selected station layouts, and a list of opening and closing dates of sections.
Soft cover, 72 pages plus covers. There is a little fading to the top right of the cover and a small inscription on the inside front endpaper. Otherwise perfect.

William F Buckley (1925-2008) was an American journalist, author and intellectual, best known as the founder of the National Review and the host of Firing Line. He wrote 50+ books, including a series of 11 novels involving a fictitious Cold War CIA agent named Blackford Oakes. (I have two other first editions from this series listed here.)Who's On First is the 3rd of these novels. In this one, Oakes is sent to Hungary during the 1956 Hungarian Uprising.
This is a stated first edition.
The dust jacket has a little bit of shelf-wear—condition is shown, but it was cream, so it has yellowed quite a bit.
The book is pristine; it appears to have been read to page 5. Someone dog-eared it, then didn't go back to it.
There are no marks of any kind in it or on it.
