London, Hurst and Blackett, 1857. . First edition; 2 vols, 8vo, ix, 326; x, 287, x, 24(ads) pp., 2 lithographed frontispieces, title-page vignettes, original blind-stamped red cloth gilt, minor spotting to frontispieces, slightly rubbed, a very good example. The youngest daughter of William, Duke of Clarence (later William IV) and the actress Mrs Jordan, the author married the colonial administrator Viscount Falkland. After being posted to Canada as Governor of Nova Scotia, Lord Falkland, accompanied by his wife, the author, was sent out to India in 1848 where he took up the post of Governor of Bombay. The book is divided into two parts. The larger part deals with the author's life in India; the remainder with her journey home during which she visited Egypt, the Holy Land, and Syria. A colourful picture of life in India during the days of the East India Company, the author having travelled extensively within her husband's fiefdom. The same good humour ensured that Amelia Cary's account of the… Read More

Description:
New York, The Blanchard Press, 1898. . Fifth edition; 4to; lithographic drawings and lettered captions by the author, first and last leaf loose, edges slightly darkened; original burlap wrappers lettered in black, coloured paper label of golfer to upper cover, covers detached (as often), edges darkened, otherwise a good copy of a fragile work. An amusing alphabet, in rhymed couplets, focusing primarily on the misadventures of novice and inept golfers, illustrated with humorous lithographic drawings and lettered captions by the author. The nature of the binding makes this book inherently fragile and is seldom found intact; the publisher's advertisement found at the end of this volume describes a hardier format, including a buckram binding, which presumably replaced earlier copies such as this one.

New York, Random House, 1936. . First edition, first impression; 8vo; publisher's black cloth, red bands to boards and spine, titles to upper board and spine gilt red topstain. With the dust jacket. Short, superficial split to front hinge, professionally repaired, but an excellent copy in the very lightly rubbed and somewhat tanned dust jacket with traces of old, internal tape repairs. Sound and the Fury notwithstanding, this may be Faulkner's best-loved work. And minor flaws apart this is a rather handsome copy of book with rarely appears in better condition.
