Closed tear to spine, spine ends and corners rubbed, soiling to covers; age toned but clean interior, tight binding. Handwritten undated 2-page letter in envelope attached to front pastedown to "Mrs. Phelps" signed by "Le R Green (Greer?)" at address 317 Second Ave, with reference to Ester Sr and Ester Jr (wife and daughter?) explaining that "when I read the title of the book enclosed with this letter, my mind turned to a beautiful picture of a sweet young mother and lovely cherub faced baby that I saw one day while at your house." The sender has also pasted to the front endpapers a photograph of statues portraying mother and child, and the rear endpaper a photograph of sculptor Mrs. Vonnoh and her sculpture of a child. Scarce title.
