Later tan half calf with gilt titles to spine., marbled boards. Internally clean, slight chip[ping to flyleaf, binding lightly rubbed to extremities, especially joints, spine sunned. Very good. A printing from the same year as the first edition. Gaboriau was a master of French detective fiction, eclipsed in English only by Doyle's 'Sherlock Holmes' stories.

This story originally appeared in the Christmas 1953 issue of Sketch in London.

Many of these had small print runs, some apparently tiny; this hardback first of Traitor's Exit took ten years to locate (even then, lacking the jacket). A particularly difficult set to assemble.
