Later (early seventeenth century) morocco, raised bands, spine in seven panels, title label to second panel, remaining panels with repeated fleur-de-lis tools, covers with rolled border, repeated fleur-de-lis tools and a central coat of arms of the College de Grassin [Olivier 1973]. Later rebacked preserving original back strip, repairs to corners and new endpapers. Internally browned and lightly damp stained, occasionally heavier (signatures r and s), with a few pages having staining to bottom margin, a few minor paper repairs, one or two small nicks and tears, single worm hole to bottom margin to M, quite large worm tracks to bottom margin of O and P, reducing down to a single worm hole again by the end of P until the end. Full slightly later calf, raised bands, spines in six panels, later leather title label to second panel, later contrasting colour volume label to third, remaining panels with blind diaper pattern, with small flower head tool towards foot of each lozenge, covers with triple fillet in gilt bordering a flower head roll frame in blind, gilt hatching to board edge corners, blind roll to inner edges, french curl marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Spines faded, rubbed to extremities, a few scrapes to covers with some minor loss, upper cover of volume one with ink splashings, volume two bumped to foot of spine. Internally some light browning and light foxing, portraits foxed and offset, but generally fairly clean. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown.
