"The Adventures of Tommy" by H.G. WELLS. 1929 1st American edition; Frederick A. Stokes Company; New York. With illustrations in color throughout by Wells. The story appears in print on the left-hand page, with the corresponding text in Wells' handwriting and color illustrations on the right-hand pages. The book was written by Wells for a child of a friend who was ill - "Tommy" saves the life of a rich man and is rewarded with an elephant. The book is larger in size - it measures 11 3/4" tall x 9 1/8" wide.

Condition:
There are a few small, light stains on the front cover; light soiling to the front cover illustrations; tiny cloth tears at the cover corner tips, and at the top-left corner of the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Light foxing to the end papers, and to the first couple and last couple pages. There appears to be two characters written in pencil within the text on the 2nd illustrated page after the title page. Overall the book is in Good+ condition.

The engraving features a beautifully decorated border designed by W. Momberger. The four corner vignettes depict Washington's most significant military battles and victories of the Revolutionary War: Trenton, Princeton, Valley Forge, and Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown. The top-center figure is of Washington as President; the bottom-center figure is of Washington as a plantation owner.The entire sheet measures 23" tall x 17 7/8" wide. Description:
Nicely illustrated antique copy of "THE DESERTED VILLAGE" by Oliver Goldsmith. 1899; E.P. Dutton & Co.; New York. This edition features full-page illustrated plates by H.L. Richardson (each with a tissue guard). Gilt top page edges.Condition:Small stains to the covers; approximately 3/4 of the front cover is tanned; sharp corners. There is a crack at the center of the book between pages 30 & 31. There is a thin, 2" reddish stain line at the top edge of the back cover. Consistent light foxing to the pages throughout (including the tissue guards). Overall the book is in Good- condition.

Description:
This is a charming, antique copy of "The Vicar of Wakefield" by Oliver Goldsmith. 1903; Adam & Charles Black; London. The book is nicely illustrated with 13 color plates by John Massey Wright (over each plate is a piece of descriptive tissue paper). Gilt top page edges. Also included in this copy is an essay by John Forster about the story.Condition:Clean covers and spine; sharp corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are in great condition - lightly age-toned but clean with only a 1" tear at the outer edge of the front end paper, and a 1/2" tear at the outer edge of page 29. There is a Christmas stamp and inscription written in pen dated 1913 on the front end paper...no other writing found. Bright gilt top page edges. Overall the book is in very good condition.
