Description:
Clark Gable's last wife, the mother of his only legitimate (and posthumous) son, John Clark Gable, was a thrice-married former fashion model and bit part actress; a year after his death in 1960 she published a memoir, "Clark Gable: A Personal Portrait." Color IPS (magazine), 7" X 9½", n.p., 1961 [August 11]. Very good. Discreet scotch tape stains at two corners. Attractive color magazine portrait depicting Gable's widow in turquoise dress and matching headband seated in an oversize white wicker chair, holding the son born a few month's after her husband's death -- baby Gable holds both hands up as if in shock and has an expression of amazement on his face. She inscribes this in a thick fountain pen almost the same color as her turquoise outfit: "To Donald Burnell / Luck and happiness, / From / John Clark Gable and his Mother / Age 2 weeks 1961." Quite unusual in this form!

Description:
The top USAAF fighter ace in Europe during World War Two is credited with downing 35 enemy aircraft and was one of only seven who became an ace in two wars (Korea); he was also an accomplished commander of several fighter groups. Color IPS, glossy 8" X 10", n.p., n.y. Fine. Modern reproduction of a great pose of a smiling young Gabreski seated in his P-47 cockpit, with 28 small Nazi flags on the plane's side denoting confirmed victories. In a light blue sky area at upper left, he boldly inscribes and signs in black fineline "To Ron Beam -- / With kind regards / and best wishes! / Francis S. Gabreski / Col USAF." A stellar example.

Description:
Mark Twain's son-in-law (wife of Clara Clemens) was a Russian-born pianist and conductor who studied under Anton Rubenstein and Theodor Leschetizky; from 1918 until his death he led the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. AMuQS, 1p, heavy stock 3½" X 2½" card, n.p., n.y. [1902]. Near fine. Light, even age toning. On a 2½" X 1" slip tipped to the center of this heavy card, Gabrilowitsch neatly writes out three measures of music, identifying it above as "Chopin, Concerto." Description:
Named president of the World's Columbian Exposition in 1890, this American financier made that event financially feasible; he served as McKinley and Roosevelt's secretary of the treasury from 1897 to 1902, securing the important Gold Standard Act in 1900. Signed Calling Card, a most handsome and unusual example as it's penned on an "Executive Mansion, / Washington" card, heavy stock 4 3/8" X 2 3/4". Near fine. Slight mounting trace on verso. "Lyman J. Gage / Secretary of the Treasury / May, 1897" penned huge and bold in heavy brown ink. Gage had only been in office two months at this point, but why this is penned on a famous "Executive Mansion" card is a puzzle. Highly desirable thus.

First of this edition, a reprint of the 1958 edition of the 1648 classic on travel in the West Indies, Mexico and Central America. ALS, 2pp (separate leaves), 5" X 8¼", n.p. (likely Sewanee, TN), 12 October 1892. Addressed to C.C. [sic] Gilman. Very good. Boldly penned and attractive, though adhesive-caused chip at upper left of first leaf (not affecting content) and matching stain at upper right of second leaf. On "The General Convention / House of Deputies" imprinted letterhead, Gailor writes the president of Johns Hopkins University Danial Coit Gilman (1831-1908): "The Trustees, Alumni & friends of the University of the South, will meet this (Wednesday) evening on the St. James Hotel for dinner at 6 O'Clock, & we all write in the hope that you may be able to be present with us.
