Large 8vo Dark brown leather spine and corners, spine has 4 raised bands with gilt ornamentation and Arabic title. Spine is scuffed and rubbed, leather corners mostly worn away, scallop embossed black cloth boards are a bit worn, back board has a scar and cloth missing at edge. Interior green paper end papers have numerous owner inscriptions from the 1940s, black hinge reinforcing, paper is quite browned, a bit of humidity staining at the top edge starting at about page 730, otherwise clean and unmarked. ; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall .

Last two pages of the index have a slight publisher's flaw at top corner, paper not cut correctly and the slight bit of excess is crumpled. Nice copy. Considers the urban development of Rome in the mid-seventeenth century as conceived and guided by Alexander VII. Includes the Quirinal, Piazza del Popolo, Pizza S. Marco, the Corso and the Vatican. Bitting who was pastor of the Mount Morris Baptist Church in NYC in the late 1890s. This is the ORIGINAL edition, not a reprint. Blind stamped brown ribbed cloth with bright gilt is fairly clean, worn at the corners, spine has brown library tape which obscures the "A" in American. Interior has marks from the American Baptist Historical Society as well as the Bitting signatures, occasional small pencil marginalia but otherwise clean and unmarked, bit fragile but still holding together.
