A single-fold brochure announcement of a medical society Monell was forming, called the Coil and Static Club, whose purpose was to "carry out a practical plan for keeping an up-to-date revision of clinical methods and new work constantly at the command of all physicians who use Therapeutic Apparatus." At the charge of a $1 initiation fee and annual dues of $5, the society would provide the members five benefits. First, a "year book", which was a bound copy of all relevant literature and articles published on electro-therapeutics that year. Second, a quarterly bulletin to review the new work of the society's members. Third, an annual convention which the doctors could gather and discuss new developments in the field. Bismark, North Dakota: North Dakota Humane Society for the Friendless, 1930. Near-fine. Minor toning.. A reprint by the North Dakota Humane Society and Society for the Friendless of a loving "Bill of Rights" for children, stating their inalienable rights: "To be born right. To be loved. To have his individuality respected. To be trained wisely in body mind and spirit. To be protected from evil persons and influences. To Have a fair chance in life" (recto). Published for the North Dakota Humane Society for the Friendless by the North Dakota Tribune. Measures 10" by 7", verso blank. Written by an Indianapolis attorney, who worked with the children's court and became very involved with Child welfare. He wrote the Children's Bill of Rights that grew to the Children's Aid Association. His wife was involved with and served as secretary of the State Child Labor Committee and actively in other welfare work.

Poughkeepsie, NY, 1920. Very good. Minor flaws include toning, the occasional spot or short tear.. A small archive of material belonging to a spirited young woman by the name of Laura Beaumont Moseley (née Hadley, 1899-1989), giving insight into her time at Vassar College. Includes a couple of school assignments, photo negatives, and plenty of developed photos in an album. This archive is notable because it conveys a clear sense of joy experienced by Moseley during this period in her life, her intelligence, and her uncanny ability to catch her friend's personalities in candid snapshots. A brief excerpt in pencil from Henry Vaughn's "The World" shows Moseley's curious, erudite side, and appreciation beauty, no doubt fostered by her family of academics. The main item featured in the archive is a photo album that Laura put together of her time at Vassar between 1918 and 1920. The Hickory Elm Club was a Democratic Political Party social club where important individuals met to discuss the politics of the day. It starts with a brief history of the club, and then continues with several arguments distancing the the current Democratic candidate from the last Democratic presidential administration of Grover Cleveland (1837-1908). This was necessary, as under Cleveland leadership the country had undergone an economic depression, known as the Panic of 1893, that he was unable to reverse, and as such, the most of the country (rightly or wrongly) blamed him for their economic troubles. At a meeting of the association of Tolland County convened at Tolland Dec. 28, 1835, the bearer, John Haven, a member of the Theological Institute of Connecticut was examined as to his doctrinal & experimental knowledge of the Bible, his views in entering the ministry and of his ability to teach, and approves and licenses to preach the gospel for the time of four years". he letter is addressed to "Dear Sir", but it is clear that he is addressing a family member or close friend of Stephen, and is in fact responding to their request to tell them of his death. George starts his retelling by stating he and his company were in the middle of a retreat and he was about 20 feet in front of Stephen when he heard him cry out. This document is the English translation of a German document which was the "Adjustment of the Average" for the ship 'The Messenger' which was under Captain Waldo Hill (1814-1888) control and traveled from Bakers Island, MA, to Hamburg, Germany. The trip started on October 12, 1871, with the ship loaded with a cargo of 1241 tons of guano. This was not to be an easy journey, and the Messenger encountered several storms, torn sails and a constant leak in the hull on there journey across the Atlantic Ocean. This leak caused the crew to almost constantly pump excess water out of the ship in order to prevent both damage to the cargo and the ship itself. At one point in order to lessen the load approximately 40 tons of guano was dumped overboard. Eventually the ship made it to its destination, Hamburg, on March 6, 1872, and this document is the official statement of Capt. Hill on the journey over and the… Read More

The book was written by Leander Hamilton McCormick (1859-1934) who was an American author, inventor, art collector, and sculptor. McCormick had inherited a fortune from his father and grandfather and spent much of his time in Europe studying sculpture and Characterology. The adjacent narrative provides information on the school, it's fees and affiliation to the "Emeline S. Hamien Industrial Home of Girls" in which they are taught the various branches of good home making, sewing, garment cutting and also have the advantages of the seminar". The content of the letter written to a mother who made a 20 cent donation for a King's Daughter membership and advised their work in the South is prospering with for which we thank God and take courage. Also references the recent $5,000 and $2,000 gifts received. Concludes with discussion about the Camp Meeting and upcoming King's Daughters convention at Cottage City.

A collection of hundreds of textile samples, weave pattern charts, and highly technical handwritten notes on the textile manufacturing process, all contained within two books belonging to Walter Hampson (dates unknown), a student at the New Bedford Textile School in Massachusetts. Together, the two books provide a remarkably comprehensive look into the industry at the time, textile education c.1929, and into Hampson's exceptional grasp on physics and manufacturing. He appears to have been not only proficient in technical drawing, but also in calligraphic drawing; his original artwork decorates the first leaf of the Lecture Note Book with an elaborate calligraphic motto design ("Toil is the Price of Excellence"). Chicago, IL: Good Teeth Council for Children, INC, 1940. General wear.. 31 pp. booklet aimed at encouraging primary grade age children to take care of their teeth. The story and the character of Jimmy Chew, a sixth year molar, are based on the Toothland Puppet Show. The booklet starts with a young boy named Fred going to the dentist, and the dentist telling Fred a story of how to take care of his new molar. The story centers around the "Big Four", which are: 1) Right Food, 2) Chewing Exercises 3) Clean Teeth, and 4) Your Dentist. The black and white illustrations in the booklet are supposedly the ones the dentist is drawing to engage Fred, and all told there are nine (9) illustrations as well as two (2) black and white printed photographs of the Toothland Puppet Show. Includes ten (10) different easel back, mechanical animals, each with a printed verse. They are Wooley the Sheep, Gobbie the Turkey, Dobbin the Farm Horse, Hissie the Goose, Gruntie the Pig, Shep the Dog, Rex the Pony and Mooey the Cow, plus a die-cut donkey with a duck and a goat with a chicken. Complete. Wear from handling, intact tear at base of fold-out.

A pocket-sized guide to exercise by Hartvig Nissen (1857-1924), a Norwegian gymnast who brought Swedish gymnastics and exercise to the United States. He begins the volume by asserting the importance of physical activity to one's happiness, and outlines the strengths of the German and Swedish "systems" of exercise, and how they informed his own. He follows the discussion with examples of exercises. Unlike fitness today, which is heavily reliant on cardio and weight-bearing exercises, Nissen's system focuses almost exclusively on calisthenics. The book provides diagrams illustrating proper posture and positioning, alongside descriptions of each movement. 12mo (5.75" by 4.25"), pp. 31, [1], with in-text illustrations. Georgetown, MA, 1885-1889. Front cover detached. Back strip missing. Back cover mostly detached. Damage to binding. . A diary of a young woman from Georgetown, MA, named Charlotte Osgood. Her family were prominent in local society. Covering four years, the journal starts with almost daily entries. As the years progress, the entries diminish in frequency, but are always picked up again during some of the exciting times in Charlotte's life. For example her trip to Provincetown in August of 1886. Charlotte also toured at Perkins School for the Blind and met Laura Bridgmen (the first American blind and deaf individual to be educated). The rest of her entries generally start with a note on the current weather, and detail her activities for the day. Such as who visited who, and where she went. Her daily activities consisted of a variety of meetings, such as church meetings, choir meetings, and missionary meetings. Charlotte loved music and often went to concerts and plays.
