Original price of $3.00 still present on the front flap. DJ shows end and corner wear/chips/tears and underside of jacket has old masking tape along the entire top and bottom edges. Blue cloth boards underneath and still clean and bright with only minor wear to edges. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates present. Pages are mildly tone due to age and pastedowns show foxing due to the reaction with the binders glue.

Oxford, PA: Oxford Press Book and Job Office, 1872. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Thin hardcover with thin flexible boards, covered in front with brown cloth. Some may refer to this as a softcover. No signatures or bookplates noted, no handwriting found on pages. Pages are toned and have scattered foxing and soiling. First edition thus. See photos.

New York: Phillips & Hunt, 1880. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, pattern brown cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Exterior shows edge and corner bumps/wear, spine has a small tear at upper right side near front board, rear board has a few holes - possibly from insects. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues and text pages are tight. Paper is toned due to age and scattered spotting is present. Front end page shows a small chip in the upper right corner and also has original owners info written in pencil: Samuel J. Derr, class of (18)83, Gettysburg College. Rear end page and pastedown also has some notes penciled. No other handwriting found in the book. First edition thus with single date of 1880 appearing on the title and copyright pages along with matching publisher name.

New York: Carlton Press, Inc., 1973. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG+/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. DJ is scuffed and soiled with creases and chips on the back, the original price of $7.95 is still present on the front flap. The underside of the dust jacket was neatly reinforced with masking tape along the top and bottom edges, over the decades the tape is become dry and brittle and will easily pop off though the paper underneath still is marked by the glue. This issue has also affected the pastedowns and opposite end pages and the front and rear of the book which show toned marks were the tape affected them. The front end page also has a rectangular mark, likely from where a receipt once was for a prolonged period of time. In addition, there is a price sticker on this page as well. Philadelphia, PA: Morwitz & Co, 1890. Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A. Langhammer. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards with blindstamped design and gilt on spine. Exterior shows scuffing and spotting, spine is faded with heavy chipping to edges, corners show bumps/wear. The interior binding shows cracks at both the front and rear boards but the text pages are good and secure. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings. The only evidence of handwriting is on the front end page where just barely see where a price was once penciled in the corner. Pages are quite toned due to age and the end pages and pastedowns are even darker, so the pages can be a bit brittle. There is no publication date listed (ca. 1890) and although this is written in German, it was published in Philadelphia. The main reason for the low condition grade is because of the interior hinge cracks at both boards.

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1936. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, dark yellow boards show some scuffing and soiling and edges and corners show bumps/wear. The rear board has some color marks and spine edges are starting to fray. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, no scribbling etc. Pages are toned due to age, especially around the edges. First edition thus with a single date of October, 1936 on the copyright page.

DJ still encased in original glassine sleeve. Only issue found is on rear flap where there is a small corner fold and some minor edge wear. Blue cloth boards with maroon and gilt design on front and spine. Mauve end pages in front and rear. Binding good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates. No remainder marks. Front end page shows very faint evidence of a price once penciled in the corner.

The original price of $3.50 is still present on the front flap but the lower corner has been cut off. The underside of the jacket has been neatly reinforced along the top and bottom edges with masking tape. Over the decades the tape is darkened and become brittle and appears to be easily removed, though the glue has darkened the underside of the DJ as well as the pastedowns. Red cloth boards underneath her clean and bright with only minor edge bumps. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues and text pages are tight. The front pastedown contains a calling card from Mrs. Robert Somers Brookings with an address of 2700 Upton Street, which was their address. Souderton, PA: Indian Valley Printing Ltd., 1979. 1st Edition . Soft cover. VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Softcover, light tan wraps show minor soiling and shelf wear. The book was removed from our store shelf and packed away for many years. Text pages are tight as book was never read and still contains the original errata sheet. Even though the book was never preowned the condition grade is listed just as VG+ due to the handling wear and spotting which is mainly limited to the exterior. The half title page (which is also the first end page. Has a couple smudge marks plus some faint residue were are price was once penciled in the corner. Map is still present and rear of book. No other handwriting, no remainder marks, no library markings present.

Hardcover, red cloth boards still have strong color but there is spotting, both light and dark. Edges and corners show some light bumps/wear, the rear board has a spot near the lower left edge where there is a small chip in the cloth along the bottom edge. The interior binding is good, no hinge issues and text pages are tight. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings. The front end page shows remnants of a price once penciled in the corner, which is the only handwriting found in the book. The only other issues with the interior is foxing is present, mainly around the illustrations and also pages 97-119 that has crimps near the upper outside corner where there is bumps/crimps along the top edge which goes in no more than 1/4 of an inch. Red cloth boards with black design on front, black and gilt on spine. Boards are darkened and soiled. Decorated end pages show no hinge cracks or bookplates. Gift inscription on second blank end page. First edition thus. Contains four illustrations, including frontispiece. Pages are toned due to age with some minor foxing present, exterior page edges darkened with stains.

Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1960. 8th Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Original price of $5.50 is still present on the front flap. DJ is scuffed and soiled small chips along the edges and corners, spine is faded with a couple blue scuff marks on it. Gray cloth boards underneath show almost no wear with the worst being some very minor corner bumps and a small flaw in the coloring in the lower right corner of the front board. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The only evidence of handwriting found in the book is on the front end page where there is very faint residue of a price once penciled in the corner. The end pages have some minor smudge marks but the text pages are clean and bright. Copyright page states this is the eighth printing.

Hardcover, light blue cloth boards show minor handling wear though there is a couple spots on the front and a more noticeable spot on the rear board. Edges and corners show bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, nothing torn or loose. Pages are toned due to age but her overall clean with just very light scattered foxing and spotting, which is mostly on the end pages and pastedowns. The copyright date shows a single publication date of 1884 (a little hard to read) with no additional printings. Book is in nice condition, borderline VG+.

New York and London: Benjamin Blom, 1968. Hardcover. As New. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Hardcover, no dust jacket as issued. Original 1968 publication in as-new condition. This book was ordered direct from Hamilton books back in 1988 and packed away for future resale but it never made to our store shelves as it was packed away and forgotten about. Book has been placed in mylar bag for protection and is as crisp and clean as the day it was printed. See photos.

Hardcover, brown cloth boards show some scuffing and spotting, corners mildly bumped/worn. The reason for the low condition grade is because the rear hinge is cracked and the front hinge is starting to crack spots. If the hinge cracks were not present the book would grade as VG to VG+. The interior pages are toned due to age with the end pages and pastedowns being quite darkened and a bit brittle. The title page is also quite dark due to reacting with the end pages. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Exterior shows edge and corner wear as well as spotting and light soiling from handling. The interior pages are toned due to age and some light foxing and spotting is noted. This is an ex-library copy from the Library Of Congress and a stamped on the copyright page had two copies were received and that this was the surplus duplicate. Last end page also has a stamp in a small piece of paper attached. Hinge is our pulling in several areas and it appears there's one or two of the front free end pages are missing, though some of this may just be poor craftsmanship from the publisher.
