Notes jacket front panel, "Based on more than 150 interviews with America's top CEOs, and on a breakthrough course at one of the world's most influential business schools." Robert Malott (1926-2018) was a noted Chicago business leader, CEO of FMC Corporation, Republican politico and philanthropist.

A tight, lovely first edition of these fictional tales about early California life, many first published in "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper" under the title "Some Folks" -- which appears here on the half-title page and as the frontispiece caption. "Romance of California Life" is the best known title of this author and "New York Herald" literary and drama critic (1842-1921) -- although he also authored the anonymous and legendary1876 juvenile title "Helen's Babies.

Sons of King Charles VII of the Austro-Hungarian empire, the last Austrian Kaiser, forced to abdicate. Pair of choice signatures, each on a heavy stock 5" X 3" card, Mexico City (for Felixís), 1979 March 23 and 1979 March 16 respectively. Both fine and with original envelopes. Unusual.

Opera singer who made his New York debut in 1919. IPS [Campbell], 8" X 10", n.p., 1925 September 18. Inscribed to pianist John Leiser. Fine. Huge bold inscription vertically along the right side of this handsome formal head-and-shoulders portrait. Part of the inscription falls within a dark area, with resulting poor contrast, but signature and date are large, bold and strong.

This American actor, director and stage manager often played Shakespearian roles on Broadway; in 1913 he starred in a silent film version of "The Prisoner of Zenda." DS, 1p, 8¼" X 3¼", London, England, 2 September 1920. Very good. Ornately printed check drawn on the London Joint City & Midland Bank Limited, with typed recipient of B. Davies and Son receiving one pound six shillings and twopence." Signed boldly by Hackett at lower right. Usual cancellation marks. Hackett was appearing in London at this time in a production of Shakespeare's "Macbeth." Very attractive.

Would rate "Fine" but for small curl at bottom of front wrapper and first few leaves -- else tight and pristine. Handsome first softbound edition of these day-to-day details of the life of the French diplomat, entrepreneur and European unity visionary (1888-1979) -- and boldly inscribed and signed by the author in black ballpoint on front flyleaf: "For John Soley / Cliff Hackett."

A tight and attractive first edition of this suspense novel set (coincidentally) in Hackman's home state of Illinois at about (coincidentally!) the year of his birth and featuring much Chicago and Midwest content. On the title page, Hackman signs large and bold in black fineline; below Hackman's signature, Lenihan signs too, adding "to Charlie" at the top of the page. A lovely copy.

First edition -- tight, clean -- of this address in which this academic argues eloquently on behalf of a proposed railroad line running from Concord, New Hampshire's capitol city, to the Connecticut River. Haddock (1796-1861) was a long-time professor of rhetoric, intellectual philosophy and civil policy at Dartmouth College, also serving (1850-54) as charge d'affaires of the United States at Portugal; he authored a number of pamphlets on a variety of educational and civic issues. Interestingly and appropriately, this copy bears the bold ownership signature at top of front wrapper of Onslow Stearns (1810-78), New Hampshire's 40th governor, a two-term Republican. Stearns is mainly remembered as a railroad builder and executive, having served as president of the Northern New Hampshire Railroad and also of the Concord & Old Colony Railroad. SABIN 29494 note.
