Description:
1880-1882. Half Cloth. Marbled Boards.. Very Good. Oblong, 24 by 29.5 cm. The album was assembled from the hand-colored folding plates that appeared in each issue. Each shows five attractive young women decked in the latest fashion, usually engaged in an activity that the actual counterpart might have done, with occasionally men and/or children worked into the background or the activity. We see the women in an opera box, skating, making morning calls, promenading, at a garden party, playing croquet, at a wedding, at the seashore, gazing at engravings, etc. The compilation of these fashion plates makes for a very different experience from simply viewing them singly in the original magazine. The leaves are slightly browned but overall clean. Light to moderate wear to the binding.

Description:
London: W. Kidd. Half Morocco. Marbled Boards. . Very Good/No Jacket. Slader, S. and others, from the designs of Cruikshank, Seymour and Bonner. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Undated, circa 1830. Xrare, with only two copies turning up on OCLC Worldcat. With frontis plate and woodcut illustrations, two per section (with title and as tail piece at end). 36, 47, 36, 49, 32, 54 pp. In essence, six smaller books or pamphlets bound together, although it appears that these may have been originally issued as a single volume. Actual authorship of each installment is not given, but pseudonymous authors are One of "The Exclusives", A Member of "The Beef-Steak Club", A Lover of Nature, One of the Cognescenti, Amator, and Amicus Juventutis, respectively, with two of the sections, such as the first, Book of Fashion, supposedly "A Digest of the Axioms of the Celebrated Joseph Brummell, Esq." As the titles suggest, this is a mostly tongue-in-cheek etiquette… Read More

Description:
Paris, 1931, 1932. Limited First Edition. Half Morocco over Marbled Paper. Very Good. No. 351 of 600, with total issuance in various forms of 3,416 copies. This set was issued with papier pur fil Lafuma. With 24 color plates and 40 black and white illustrated plates in the two volumes. Bound attractively with decorated morocco, with various curly-cue gilt ornamentation. The set epitomizes the inter-war French vogue for soft core erotica, here with literary pretensions or pedigree from the eighteenth century, that hotbed of erotic gamboling before squelched by the Revolution. Some spotting on the fore-edges. Rubbing on the spine extremities and the edges. Overall a handsome set.

Description:
1935. Manuscript from mid-1930s. 4to. 29 by 22.5 cm. Four page typed outline of course, followed by 25 pages with posters mounted, and blank pages interspersed and at end. 69 posters represented. In color there are 55. Some are cut-out from magazines, quite obviously. Some appear to have been standalone small versions of the posters, somewhat like coupons, but we are not sure of the exact origin. Regardless, the value here is the collection of poster images which provide a visually appealing and good survey of poster art of the day, with some of the posters probably being somewhat obscure even to poster aficianados of today. Posters are of a wide variety -- travel, liquor, food, gasoline, entertainment, etc.
