Description:
New York: Simon & Schuster, 2008. First Edition. First Printing. Hardcover. Octavo. x, 131 pages. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. Binding tight, unread copy. Head and heel of spine each have very slight bumps. White jacket has a few nearly imperceptible smudges. Bound in white paper over boards with cloth spine stamped in red foil.. When Lee Israel's celebrated writing career took a sudden downturn she embarked on an astonishing one-woman forgery racket run out of her Upper West Side studio. Using old typewriters, she fabricated hundreds of letters from the likes of Dorothy Parker, Noël Coward, Edna Ferber, Lillian Hellman and others, skillfully imitating their individual voices and styles and then forging their autographs with a flourish. The 2018 film of the same name, starring Melissa McCarthy, is adapted from this memoir.
