Blue cloth boards with gilt decoration to spine. 16 10.4cm, 331pp. This copy belonged to, and has been signed by, Edward J O'Brien, the American writer, poet, editor and anthologist. He has dated the book February 5th, 1920, and with the inscription Secretum Meum Mihi (My secret is mine). O'Brien established The Best American Short Stories series of books in 1915. William Morris's retelling of the mythology surrounding the Greek hero Jason and the sorceress Medea. The poem is written in heroic couplets, a constant structure with pairs of rhyming lines, which set a marching tone to the narrative. Condition: A good copy, the cloth binding is a little rubbed and dulled, but the contents are in good order and in strong readable condition.

Hardback bound in full leather. 17 × 10cm, 160pp. This copy was owned by the artist Lawrence Alma Tadema as a young man and he has signed the engraved title page and dated it 1853 (he would have been 16). Alma Tadema was one of the most highly renowned romantic artists of the late 19th century. A collection of poems by Scottish poet Thomas Campbell. Gertrude of Wyoming is set in the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania and the massacre that occurred there on July 3, 1778 when more than three hundred American Revolutionaries died at the hands of Loyalists and their Iroquois allies. Condition: The leather is quite heavily worn and the front joint is weak with the upper board nearly detached. The pages are foxed to the title pages but the main body of text is in good order. A battered copy with an interesting provenance.

Hardback, bound in blue cloth with gilt titling to spine. 22.5 × 15cm, 256pp. This copy has two previous owner's signatures. Firstly, the book is signed by C H Dodd, the Welsh New Testament scholar and influential Protestant theologian, and secondly by author and historian, Dr J T Driver, a specialist in 15th century political history. Historian C V Wedgwood's biography of William the Silent (William of Orange) the main leader of the Dutch Revolt against the Spanish Habsburgs that set off the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648) and resulted in the formal independence of the United Provinces in 1581. Condition: A good copy. The cloth is rubbed and a little bumped to the corners, and the pages a bit tanned but otherwise in strong readable condition, and with the added attraction of having had notable previous owners.
