Description:
Uralla, NSW: Idriess Enterprises, 2008. Hardback small quarto, dustjacket, as new condition (in as new dustjacket), minimal edgewear jacket. 208 pp. This is a collection of the contributions of Ion Idriess to The Bulletin, the weekly magazine that was first published in 1880 and became an Australian institution of the 20th century. Most were written under a pen-name (Gouger was the most common), and have not been recognised, let alone collected before. This collection is a window into Australia's past, which has been revealed by a master storyteller who was an astute observer of nature, the environment and people, and often told with humour. These early paragraphs give an insight into a fascinating man. Compiled by Idriess collector Jim Bradley.

Description:
Sydney: Angus & Robertson, 1938. New, 1st printing ed.. Hardback small octavo, no jacket (missing), good plus condition, black & white frontispiece, few black & white drawings, free flyleaf maps, spine lightly faded, some foxing edges & some pages, owner's written name. 253 pp. (Madman's Island, by Ion Idriess, Angus & Robertson, 1938.) Ion Idriess first wrote this book in 1927 as a novel - the book failed, and the publisher asked him to rewrite it in 1938 in this present form as a true adventure story. It is set on an island of the Great Barrier Reef. Idriess tells of six terrible months spent on a small island of the Howick Group with only a madman, Charlie, for company. In his struggle to keep alive, he had desperate adventures and suffered the terrors of complete loneliness. Humour, grim realism and strange beauty mingle in this classic adventure tale, told with plenty of vitality.
