This is a beautifully illustrated, antique copy of "THE INGOLDSBY LEGENDS" - or, Mirth and Marvels by Thomas Ingoldsby. 1911; Macmillan and Co.; London. With 16 full-page color plates by H.K. Theaker, as well as a few black & white in-text illustrations. The book is a collection of myths and ghost stories that blend humor with the grotesque. Here are a few examples of the stories: The Witches' Frolic; The Ghost; The Spectre of Tappington; The Tragedy; The Dead Drummer; Raising the Devil...and many more. The page edges are (intentionally) stained blue on all sides of the text block.Condition:There is a very light stain near the top-right corner of the front cover; some fading of the blue cloth at the center of the back cover; light wear to the cover corners. Tiny cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine. There is a small 1/4" cloth tear at the bottom edge of the back cover. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. "THE INGOLDSBY LYRICS" by Thomas Ingoldsby (author of "The Ingoldsby Legends"). 1881 1st edition; Richard Bentley and Son; London. With a frontispiece portrait of Ingoldsby. The book is a collection of humorous poems, political skits, parodies, songs, epigrams, epistles, etc.

Condition:
Clean covers and spine; there is a bit of light "bubbling" beneath the cloth to a few areas on the covers. Small cloth tear at the bottom of the spine; there is a thin strip of cloth missing at the top of the spine, and a tear at the top-left corner. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Occasional light foxing to the pages (though heavier on the frontispiece, title page, and the tissue guard in between). Overall the book is in Good condition.

This is a handsome, 33 volume collection of "The Writings of WASHINGTON IRVING" in great condition. Limited "Book-Lover's New Sunnyside Edition" - #175 of only 600 printed. The volumes are beautifully illustrated, including full-page plates (each protected by tissue paper, on which is printed a description of the image), in-text illustrations, vignettes before and/or after chapters, and photographs ("Rip Van Winkle" features photographs of the actor Joseph Jefferson). The illustrations are from a variety of artists, most notably ARTHUR RACKHAM (see title page photo for the complete list of artists). Gilt top page edges. Printed on each front pastedown is an elaborate ex-libris label with a portrait of Irving and an illustration of "Sunnyside" (Irving's New York home). This is a charming, antique copy of "Christmas Day" by WASHINGTON IRVING. 1911; The Hayes Lithographing Co.; Buffalo, New York. Faux-leather covers with marbled end papers and gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. The book is nicely illustrated with color chromolithographs at the top of every page, as well as a headpiece and tailpiece at the beginning and end of the story.Condition:Small stain at the outer edge of the front cover; clean back cover. There is a bit of scuffing at the cover corners and at the top & bottom edges of the spine. There is a 3" tear at the bottom-left edge of the spine that appears to have been repaired with a clear glue. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are mostly clean with the exception of some occasional light foxing. There are 2 inscriptions written in pen on the front end paper. Overall the book is in Very Good- condition.
