Description:
2012 . The complete suite of four screenprints in colour, 2012, on Coventry Rag paper, each signed in pencil and numbered TP 4/8, from the edition of 8 trial proofs aside from the standard edition of 82, in the original red portfolio binder, published by American Image Art, each sheet 88 x 74 cm. (34¾ x 29¼ in.) This suite is a variation of Indiana's iconic 1960s 'LOVE' imagery, Indiana even declared 'HOPE' to be the 'long-awaited sibling of LOVE.' Both subjects are characterised by their square configuration, slanting 'O', bold typeface and the 'hard-edge painting' style- which is defined by the use of areas of flat colour with clear (or 'hard') edges. Today, Indiana's 'HOPE' is perhaps most closely associated with Barack Obama's 2008 Presidential campaign. At the time, all proceeds raised from the sale of this work went towards Obama's campaign. This was an overt display of his support for the Democrat and his faith in the positive potential of Obama's candidacy. Indiana always held the belief… Read More

1996 . Screenprint in colours, 1996, on A.N.W. Crestwood Museum paper, signed in pencil and numbered from the edition of 200, published by American Image Editions, New York, 66 × 50.8 cm. (26 x 20 in.) 'LOVE' is one of the most recognisable images of the American Pop Art movement and was a pioneering piece of hard-edged abstraction - an approach to painting that became widespread in the 1960s and is characterised by areas of flat colour with sharp, clear (or 'hard') edges. This piece is just one of a number of adaptations of the original 1964 design. 'LOVE' has been translated into different languages, alphabets, and mediums – most famously into a series of vibrant, large scale public sculptures. First created in 1964 for the Museum of Modern Art's Christmas card that year, 'LOVE' quickly became the most popular greetings card the museum had ever produced and was later adapted for the design for a national stamp. The straightforward and socio-political overtones of the message of 'LOVE', are… Read More

1997. . The complete portfolio of 30 screenprints in colours (24 bound in and six removable as issued), each signed and numbered in pencil, number 10 of 30 artist's proofs aside from the numbered edition of 395, printed on hand-pulled Coventry 300 gram acid free paper, presented in the publisher's original white cardboard printed box and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the studio and signed by Robert Indiana, folio 57 x 44.5 cm. (22½ x 17½ in.) Taking two years to complete, this stunning 100-page work is a compendium of Indiana's masterpieces, alongside the poetry of fellow avant-garde artist Robert Creeley, who first collaborated with Indiana in 1968 on the publication of Numbers. The American Dream represents the completion of the cycle that launched Indiana's career, following EAT, Love and Numbers. These works display Indiana's appropriation of advertising to create a new art in the 1960s, using single but powerfully symbolic words. Notable images included are: The… Read More

Description:
London, Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1936. . First edition, first impression; 8vo; folding plan of 'St Anthony's College' at end, light spotting to half-title; publisher's cloth, printed dust-jacket, slightly chipped at fore-corners and spine ends, closed split at foot of spine, small closed tear to top edge of upper panel, slight dulling to the yellow of panels and spine, but overall a very good example. 'This is the best "first" Detective Story that has ever come our way' (Gollancz's blurb on jacket). An unusually good example of the first novel by retired Oxford don J.I.M. Stewart writing as Michael Innes, introducing crime fans to his most famous detective creation, Sir John Appleby. As a prior professor of English, Stewart's novels are often possessed of an erudition and sagacity that make them stand out from their contemporaries. A known scarcity in the original dust-jacket, especially in such condition, and a key work in any detective fiction collector's library.
