Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, 1837. FIRST EDITION, SECOND ISSUE. Includes the publisher's advertisements. With one folding map. Cloth -backed boards; boards a bit rubbed and soiled; some light scattered foxing. First edition, second issue, with "animals" spelled correctly on title. Some very valuable descriptions of Chicago as well as other principal towns of Illinois. Of particular interest is the organization of school districts and the establishment of colleges and libraries. The six letters from a Rambler are said to be from the pen of a talented young Philadelphian who was corresponding for the Pennsylvania Inquirer and Daily Courier. Description:
Rauenstein, Germany: Johann Georg Greiner, 1850. Blue and white swiebelmotief (Germany art-deco) decorative style for which this company was known. With the Greiner & Sons mark in blue underglaze. All parts complete and in magnificent condition. The inhaler was designed to heat water and other essences such as camphor for nasal and oral inhalation. It is featured in the book Die Samlung of B. Olonetzky." A similar item is in the Swiss Pharmaceutical Museum in Basel, Switzerland.In 1739 Johann Georg Greiner obtained a concession from the Duke Georg of Saxony-Meiningen to open a porcelain factory, together with his son. They produced many items of decorative porcelain, but only very few medical items. We have not found any copies of this asthma inhaler in our researches.

Publisher's cloth, gilt decorations on both boards, spine elaborately gilt, somewhat worn and rubbed; interior spotted throughout. Second French edition. Irving (1783-1859), an American writer, historian and diplomat, recounts his travels on the frontier. In 1832, Irving, recently returned from nearly two decades living abroad, embarked on a monthlong trek across what soon became Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). His traveling companions included Charles Joseph Latrobe, a 31-year-old Englishman of French ancestry, and Albert Alexander de Pourtalès, a 19-year-old Franco-Swiss count. They were joined by Judge Henry Leavitt Ellsworth of Connecticut, whom President Andrew Jackson had recently appointed to a board of commissioners arranging for the removal of the Southern Indian tribes west of the Mississippi.
