Evidence of minor shelf wear on jacket front and back flyleaf shows a 0.25 in. round spot of unknown origin else fine/fine. Being an Iowa bookseller I have and have seen many signed copies. However, I have never seen the author sign as Robert Kincaid. As photos show, there is an owner's inscription from Gary to Bob. In return, the author inscribes "For Bob, who will understand. Robert Kincaid". Underneath, the author signs and dates the inscription the month of publication (4/12/92). Inscription in ink on half title page is rare in ink, more commonly seen signed with felt tip (sharpie). Included is the newpaper clipping showing… Read More

Robert Waller (1939-2017) was a faculty member at the Univ. of Northern Iowa, serving as dean of the business school (1980-1986). In 1989, dissatisfied with his career he took an unpaid leave of absence to explore the state of Iowa. Photographing the covered bridges found in Madison Co. (Iowa) Waller was the inspired to write the novella in 2 weeks. In the story Robert Kincaid, a photographer encounters the middle-aged farm wife Francesca. After an intense four-day affair Francesca must make a choice; remain with her family or begin a new life.
The book was an immediate best-seller in 1992, staying on the NY TImes best-seller list for three years. The book was the basis for the movie by the same name in 1995 and starred Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.… Read More

Description:
Harper & Row. New York. 1976. Quarter-bound in navy blue with yellow paper boards and gilt lettering on front and spine. Fine third edition inscribed, for obvious reasons, in purple, on flyleaf. Go Vikings! Fair pictoral jacket is clipped and has shelf wear, minor chipping to margins and paper loss to upper and lower spine of jacket. First-team all SEC at the University of Georgia, he was drafted into the NFL in 1961. Playing for 18 season, primarily with the Vikings he was the NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year in 1975. Many will recall his style of play: "I scramble because I'm good at it, because I can twist and dodge those big pass rushers better than most guys, and we get a lot of touchdowns that way". How true that was (342 TDs in his career). He later went on to be a commentator on Monday Night Football. He also founded a Software (computer-program generator) company call Tarkenton Software. 6.5x9.5 in. 274 pg.
