One of 250 numbered copies of which this is number 99. Vellum significantly mottled else this this is a very good copy. Presentation copy from the publisher to his wife: "Caroline Sleeper Harper from her Husband, Christmas, 1892." Caroline Sleeper Harper was the wife of Joseph Wesley Harper Jr., a businessman and the son of one of the founders of Harper & Brothers, a prominent publishing firm. She was the mother of Henry Sleeper Harper, a passenger on the RMS Titanic who survived the sinking. Her husband, Joseph Wesley Harper Jr. (1825-1896), was the son of Joseph Wesley Harper, one of the founders of Harper & Brothers. He joined the firm in 1848 and became a partner in 1851. The book is broken up into four parts: "John James, Pioneer;" "Personal Recollections of Vinton Lee James;" "San Antonio;" and "Western Texas." The author was born in San Antonio in 1858, and shares a wealth of personal information of his early life in that city and its environs. His father, John James, was a highly regarded pioneer surveyor of Texas during the Republic and early statehood. Illustrated with plates and in-text illustrations. Light wear to the edges and hinges but a near fine copy. The author spent time at the Lucheza Ranch near Kerrville, and also took trips to San Francisco and Yosemite, as well as into Mexico before returning to England. Rare in first edition. The dustwrapper is not clipped; it is reinforced at the spine tip from within with what appears to be archival tape. It appears to be fine and is striking in black and yellow. A translation of Ubu Roi, which opened in Paris in 1896. This volume includes the entire Ubu cycle for the first time in English: King Turd; King Turd Enslaved; Turd Cuckolded/ The translation is by Beverley Keith and George Legman. Laid-in are two letters from Legman to bookseller M. J. Royer of Los Angeles, one of them attaching a carbon of the then proposed dustwrapper notice, and the other a proof sheet of page 43 with portions of 42 and 44, Also laid in is a letter from Royer to writer Theodore Reeves suggesting he meet Legman, whom e he describes as a character, 'but I think, brilliant and worth knowing." .

San Francisco: Bullnettle Press, 1998. Broadside. Fine. A Broadside, finely printed by Asa Peavy in red and black on a Legion Letterpress in an edition of 208 copies. Wood engravings by George Walker. The text is from 'A Crowne-Garland of Goulden Roses', London, 1612. This is the first printing of the Arthurian sonnet since then, and a very nice job Asa has done of it. The three wood engravings are well executed: The knight and the maid; the hag; and the (absolutely stunning) flea. Unframed; shipped rolled.

Johnson was a founding member of the Hampstead Guild of Scribes and Bookbinders, which became the Guild of Contemporary Bookbinders and then Designer Bookbinders. He is the author of several books on the craft of bookbinding. .

The cloth finish is worn in the upper hinge area and upper corner of the upper board, else this is a fine copy The clamshell case shows light wear else is in very good condition. .

Illustrated with eight half-tone plates and numerous line drawings in the text. Index. A very early movie manual, with diagrams and explanations of all facets of motion pictures. There is even a discussion of a primitive color film process. Cloth lightly soiled and worn, else this is a very good copy. First published in the preceding year. .

First edition. 8vo. x, 260pp. Contemporary half morocco, spine in six compartments with raised bands, gilt spine title and gilt rules on the bands; marbled paper boards in the Spanish Marbler pattern. Light rubbing to edges and hinges, else this is a very good copy. John Jones (1766?-1827) was a Welsh Unitarian Minister and a lexicographer of note. Besides religious tracts, he published a Latin Grammar and two version of the Greek Lexicon as well as a curious retort on the Explanation of the Greek Article (1827). His Greek Grammar approached the subject in a new way and was frequently reprinted. Copies of the first printing are scarce in commerce. .

The publisher's binding is pure red and white silk woven to the shape of the book, beveled boards. One of the earliest publications of the works of Nennius, who flourished in the 8th century and has given us some of the first written descriptions of King Arthur and his battles.
