Self-published collection by a Florida poet, on themes of Blackness including a section of homages to various African-American personages including Martin Luther King, Nikki Giovanni, James Brown, and Aretha Franklin.

Jackson wrote Ramona, first published in 1884, to draw attention to the mistreatment of Mission Indians in Southern California that she had already described in her 1881 book A Century of Dishonor and 1883 Report on the Conditions and Needs of the Mission Indians. Ramona was enormously popular. Though its immediate result was a wave of California tourism, rather than a cry of outrage, Jackson's work did ultimately influence reform legislation (ANB).
