This is the eleventh of fourteen novels in the Adam Dalgliesh Mystery series.

This book shows the spine creases and slight skewing of the spine so often seen in paperback books. It is also another book that met the wrath of the book biting cat, so there are a trio of puncture wounds to the lower right corner of the front cover. The 254 pages are undamaged, clean and tight. This is the very first novel featuring Chief Inspector Adam Dalgliesh of Scotland Yard. 13 others would eventually follow. Originally published in 1962.
