"The trajectory of marginal Detroit mob-man Joe Service continues to leave a mess in its aftermath, the clearing up of which seems to be the eternal lot of Detroit copper Fang Mulheisen, now in his sixth appearance. In Deadman (1994), Joe was left in Montana, shot in the head. Here, still recovering from his coma, he takes off for Salt Lake City with his smitten nurse, Cathleen Yoder, who was lusted after by the female shooter in the previous novel. Joe and Cathleen become lovers, but his memory isn't as functional as his sex drive: he can't remember where his money is, and he has violent encounters with some large angry hoods from Tonga, whom he isn't sure really exist. Description:
First Deluxe Limited Edition thus. One of 200 copies printed, (this one unnumbered), on the occasion of the American Bicentennial, this copy being unnumbered. A stunning work. Fine in dark blue half-bound goatskin over beautiful hand-marbled boards by Barnard & Jackson, lettered in gilt within a circular leather onlay on the front cover. Presented in a near fine lightly rubbed blue cloth slipcase. Illustrated with 30 hand-colored maps, all but one of which fold-out, and many of which are two pages. Pages are hand-numbered. First published in 1776, this was one of the first major atlases of the Americas.
This extremely high quality facsimile was based on the hand colored copy of the original held by the Royal Geographical Society and was issued to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The Maps cover the whole of the Americas, but the majority focus on the then known areas of North America. This beautiful copy is quite large and heavy, and may require additional postage.

Description:
First Edition. Very good in a very good dust jacket. Bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to spine. First issue jacket with authors photo on rear panel rather than reviews found on later issue jackets. Jones' first book, basis for the 1953 film starring Montgomery Clift, Burt Lancaster, and Frank Sinatra. From Here to Eternity is the debut novel of American author James Jones. It is loosely based on Jones' experiences in the pre-World War II Hawaiian Division's 27th Infantry and the unit in which he served, Company E ("The Boxing Company"). Fellow company member Hal Gould said that while the novel was based on the company, including some depictions of actual persons, the characters are fictional and both the harsh conditions and described events are inventions. From Here to Eternity won the National Book Award and was named one of the 100 Best Novels of the 20th century by the Modern Library Board. Octavo (8 1/2" x 6"), 861 pp. A great copy.
