The exhibits included many antiquarian remains illustrating the history of the Jews in England, together with a collection of objects of ecclesiastical art and miscellaneous Jewish antiquities. The idea of the exhibition originated by Isidore Spielmann, an engineer, who enlisted the co-operation of a large number of English antiques dealers and collectors. Typed version of Edward James' poem Indian Summer, signed by James at the end of the poem. This particular poem does not appear in The Heart and the Word, James' posthumous selected poems, and is likely unpublished.

With the author's elaborate multicoloured, signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'for Walleye affectionately, eccentrically, horticulturally and exotically from Edward James'. Beneath the inscription is a beautiful four colour ink drawing of a root system and green shoots, the plant winding its way underling the author's signature. There are apparently variant dust jacket designs for this publication; the present example being that with the Paul Tchelitchew portrait on the upper panel.

A remarkable association copy with the author's flamboyant presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'for William Grant Sherry with best wishes from Edward James Laguna, September 1943'. Beneath the inscriptions are three very accomplished pencil portraits of the author by Sherry who was a notable portrait artist. He was also Bette Davies' third husband.

Sol and Mae Babitz were a musician and artist respectively, based in Hollywood, and the parents of the American author Eve Babitz.

II & III, the odd marginal spot, not affecting text, otherwise near-fine; publisher's dark green cloth, double-panelled in black, gilt lettering, contemporary ownership inscriptions to the front free endpapers of the first and last volumes, dated 1887, slight bumping to exrtremities, spines very gently rolled but a truly exceptional set of great scarcity thus. A superb set of one of James' most famous but controversial novels. The Bostonians was from its initial publication in serial form, a divisive work, with many reviewers of the time feeling it was uncharitable in its depiction of the liberal and intellectual ambitions of the Bostonians it seemed to send up. Other reviewers felt the work was overly political in its treatment of its subject matter, including the emerging social reform movements of the time, notably feminism, which James himself was, it seems, somewhat ambivalent about. An especially fresh copy in the strikingly bright dust jacket which was trimmed just a millimetre short. The best copy we have handled of the author's second book. The slight shortness of the jacket has been noted on other copies, but with no clue as to why this would have happened in production. Whatever the case may be, this is a beautiful copy and deeply uncommon thus.

The first English translation of this poem by Jami and first translation from Persian by Edward Fitzgerald. Salámán and Absál was composed in the late fifteenth century as part of Jami's larger work Haft Awrang. Based on an allegorical tale it tells of the love of the Greek prince Salaman for his nurse Absal. Although it must be noted that this is a much condensed edition by Fitzgeraldn and most likely most likely presented as such because it is a translation from the 1850 Persian printed edition of the text edited by Forbes Falconer (1805-1853).
