No annotations or inscriptions etc. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. original cloth hardcover, 325 pages. "Clive James on TV" is now in book form. For many people, Clive James will always be a TV presenter first and foremost, and a writer second - this despite the fact that his adventures with the written work took place before, during and after his time on the small screen. Nevertheless, for those who remember clips of Japanese endurance gameshows and Egyptian soap operas, Clive reinventing the news or interviewing Hefner and Hepburn, Polanski and Pavarotti, Clive's 'Postcards' from Kenya, Shanghai and Dallas, or Clive James Racing Driver, Clive's rightful place does seem to be right there - on the box, in our homes, and almost one of the family. However you think of him, though, and whatever you remember him for, "The Blaze of Obscurity" is perhaps Clive's most brilliant… Read More

Description:
London: Derek Verschoyle, 1953. First Edition. Hardback. VG/Poor. The book itself is in excellent condition apart from pencilled margin lines to indicate significant passages and a previous owner's name inscribed neatly on front end page. The dustwrapper has heavy wear and a number of tears which have been repaired with sellotape. These conversations with Kaka took place in Prague between 1920 and 1924. They were compiled from notebooks and diaries when the author was in close contact with Kafka. Their veracity has been confirmed by Kafka's lifelong friend and literary executor, Max Brod, and Kafka's last girlfriend, Dora Dymant. As Brod indicates, these reports of conversations give an intimate picture of Kafka and contain some of the quotations most often cited by other biographers etc. .
