Description:
Philadelphia, PA: Thomas Wardle, 1842. Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Large thick hardcover, this is volume 1 ONLY of the 1842 edition, which was published in two volumes. The exterior shows scuffing and spotting, with numerous chips and tears along the spine, edges and corners, which are also worn. The exterior is the only reason for the lower condition grade of good minus. The internal binding is good except for some pulling and spots. Pages do show various degrees of foxing, which can be also seen on the image of the title page. There are no bookplates or library markings, no torn or loose pages found. There is some handwriting: the front end page shows us who the original owners were, the inscription reads "Presented to George E. Hogg by his Mother and Father, July 31, 1843.". George Edwin Hogg (1815-1893) was from Pennsylvania and had several children, one of them was Nathaniel B. Hogg - whose signature is present on… Read More

Description:
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1960. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Original price of $3.95 is still present on the front flap. DJ shows quite a bit of edge wear and chipping, chipping to the spine edges being the worst. The underside of the dust jacket was neatly reinforced with masking tape along the top and bottom edges, over the decades the glue from the tape has darkened the exterior side of the jacket. The tape is dry and brittle and appears to be very easy to remove if desired. Gray cloth boards underneath are clean with the only issue being some very light edge fade and corner bumps. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No hinge issues present. The biggest flaw with the interior of the book is the bottom edge of a few pages in the front has an indentation from a paperclip, the title page and opposite page also has a rust mark from this.… Read More

Description:
New York and London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1909. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcovers, 10 volume matched set containing the entire second series of the Young People's Book-shelf, purchased from the original family in the early 1980s. All 10 volumes square bindings and are similar in color. This is pointed out because the photos may shows some variations or bowing of the boards, which was only caused by the camera. There are a couple volumes that have a slightly lower condition rating, but this is only because of they have small tears at the bottom of the spine cloth. This issue can be seen on the photo showing all 10 spines. All the books have good interior binding, there are no hinge cracks, no handwriting, no bookplates or any other markings. All of the text pages are clean and without issues. Some of the titles would grade as VG+ only because of the small tear at the bottom of the spine, others grade… Read More
