San Francisco: Press of Bolte & Braden Co., 1911. First edition. Mild wear to edges of covers, rear free endpaper edges ragged, else very good. 377 pp. + 4 pages advertisements; nearly ever page illustrated with reproductions from photographs, including many full-page plates; octavo, red cloth with gilt title and ornaments, all edges gilt. A lavishly-illustrated work by commercial writer, author, and California booster George Wharton James (1858-1923). The Hotel Association of San Francisco, together with the Southern California Hotel Association once again invited the Hotel Men's Mutual Benefit Association to hold their annual session in Los Angeles and to combine the meeting with a rail tour of the state. Thus a reprise of the 1896 event was accomplished, again with the contributions in energy, inspiration, and ink of George Wharton James. Rocq 16953, Controversial James #42.
