The book includes photographs, reproductions of documents, a family history, and an index; 178 pages. The book is signed by both of the Jacksons on the front endpaper. Laid in is a 20 pages stapled booklet entitled "The Retirement of Dr. Ulys Jackson" which also includes some photographs. Also laid in are two letters and a card to a couple in Oklahoma to whom the books were given.

The book is about 18 1/2" high, and 13" wide, bound with goatskin spine over blue cloth boards blocked in gold, silver and black. There are 264 full color, full page plant portraits, and two tipped in foldout color plates. There is a separate Commentary volume, bound in blue cloth, which includes 10 full page illustrations. This printing of the Commentary is the first time it has been translated from the original Latin into English. There are also three separately cased full-sized color plates suitable for framing. Probably published in the 1940's or 1950's. The jacket has a spot of glue on each flap, affixing the flap to the pastedown (appears to have been published this way).
