Tall 12mo, one of the envelope books with a variant binding in lavender cloth with gilt titling on cover and pictorial pastedown. Six beautiful color plates by Jessie M. King. Slight browning to the spine, some soiling and wear to cloth, internally clean and bright. See White B85ii. Scarce in the cloth binding.

An octavo, bound in original olive green cloth with gilt spine title and pictorial pastedown on the upper cover. Jessie King did the illustrations for this book by taking her watercolors and paper with her early in the morning to capture the play of light on the Seine. It was first published by Gowan and Gray in 1911, with the French language edition following in 1912. There were only 1,000 copies of the book printed, far fewer with the French text than the English. Eighteen color plates by King capture her affection for the city she and E.A. Taylor loved nearly as much as their village home of Kirkcudbright. There is some light browning and foxing, else a fine copy of a scarce title. The color cover illustration, different than the one used on the English edition, was lacking and has been supplied in facsimile. The book beautifully captures the artist's unique combination of technical skill and romantic whimsy. (White, 92, describing only a French text edition in paper wrappers).

King (1875-1949) was the foremost Scottish book designer and illustrator of the 20th century. Her work reflected the mixture of Symbolism and Arts and Crafts practiced by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the others of "The Four" in Glasgow where she was trained. During the 50 years of her career she designed and illustrated some 250 books, over 100 greeting cards, bookplates and assorted items of ephemera. A Guide to the Printed Work of Jessie M. King attempts to bring order to this enormous output. Three different designs were used for this series of books, this one being the wisp of a child with the gilt halo. Gilt lettering on cover and spine. A very nice copy with just a hint of soil to the cover. Gilt bright, text clean. Gift inscription dated 1903 on front end leaf. White B52. A near fine copy.

White paper over boards with marvelous cover illustrations in vivid colors by Jessie M. King. Top edge green. A companion volume to Corners Of Grey Old Gardens, this is considered by many to one of the finest examples of Jessie King's inimitable style. Having become quite scarce of late, particularly in the First Edition, this is a handsome and satisfying copy. There is a modest contemporary signature in the corner of the front pastedown and some very minor soiling and wear. A small bit of old cello tape is at the bottom of the spine ( 1/2" x 1.5"), not particularly detracting. Offsetting from paper on the front free endpaper. Overall, the book requires few apologies, with the boards and gilt exceptionally bright and the contents clean and free from foxing. White 111.

No wear or marks of any kind save for an authorial inscription in blue ink on the front free endpaper: "If you paid less than $100.00 for this book it will disintegrate before you get it home, Go the distance Bill Kinsella" A superb copy with a terrific inscription.

Bound in dark terra cotta colored cloth elaborately blindstamped with an Art Nouveau design of a child's face peering out of stylized flowers and foliage. Beautifully illustrated by Emilie Benson Knipe in color and black and white. This lovely children's book from the Arts and Crafts period of design captures the innocence of childhoods spent in this era of simple, eloquent verse and the rich world of the imagination. A fine copy with a name and date of 1918 on the dedication page written in a fine hand adding to its charm!
