NY: Twayne Publishers, (1949.) 1st edition. Signed on the front endpaper by Laing, a Welsh-American poet associated with the Dartmouth group. There is also a signed, laid-in note from her mother, Eve Bennett. On a folded sheet that includes a photocopy of a Christmas card design drawn by a young Dilys in 1925. This book was given to the recipient of the note by "Mr. West." (i.e., Herbert Faulkner West, a longtime professor of comparative literature at Dartmouth.) 64 pp. Slender 8vo clothbound hardcover. VG in lightly worn and price-clipped dust jacket. Abrasions on the front pastedown from removal of a bookplate or other item. Unobtrusive and partly hidden by the jacket flap. Prior owner has circled in ink the titles of three poems, (pp., 15, 28 and 45.) Clean internally otherwise. Sound binding. A nice signed copy with a unique association.

Circa 1920 personal bookplate of Sonia Lustig (1867-1943), a Russian-born American bookplate collector. Lustig lived in Rhode Island, and her notable collection of 5,500+ bookplates is now housed at Brown University in Providence, RI. Lustig's pictorial bookplate features a child riding a mythological Pegasus, with a lush tree and Russian architecture in the background. The motto reads: "In Good and Truth is Our Strength." Signed in the plate with the interlocking monogram "CLD" [New England artist Chester L. Dodge, 1880-1950.] Approx. 2.75 x 3.75 inches. Mounted to a book page from 1922, with the single word "Kimono" printed at the bottom of the verso. Also included is the separate title page from Kimono, a novel by John Paris. Bookplate is VG with typical signs of age.
