By the 1960s, the idea of Marxist inevitability had little to offer Lefebvre, and he began his book writing "Events belie forecasts" and ends with the need to incorporate new knowledge into politics to achieve a unified understanding. This book is in excellent condition except for some light scuffing on the cover, and personal ownership inked inside the front cover.

The background to the text begins with a huge investment by the state of Illinois to fund internal improvements" in railroad, ports and turnpikes. The investment and the project failed in the financial Panic of 1837.
