Illustrated in color and black-and-white throughout with 14 beautiful full-page plates by de Harvaez (including frontis). Housed in publisher's matching green paper-covered slipcase with scalloped opening. Quite fine, virtually as new.

Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1919. May Wilson Preston. First edition. Illustrated by May Wilson Preston and M. L. Blumenthal. More stories from Jack the Kaiser Killer continuing his letters from the ship and on shore in France. Nice copy of the book which is near fine with the barest wear in a very nice, bright dust jacket with very small chips on corners and spine ends, also near fine.

New York: George H. Doran Company, (1916). First edition. The book consists of stories that were written as letters from a professional baseball player, Jack Keefe, to his friend Al Blanchard in their hometown of Bedford, Indiana. It was subsequently a nationally syndicated comic strip scripted by Lardner and drawn by Will B. Johnstone and Dick Dorgan. The book has minor wear on corners and spine ends, spine lettering color faded out, and a little cocked, otherwise very good, lacking dust jacket.

Rubbing to few letters in publisher's name at base of spine and just a touch to few letters in title; subtle spotting to boards, most noticeably on rear one; scant foxing to page edges; otherwise very good or better, lacking the scarce dust jacket.

The briefest of brief TYPED LETTERS SIGNED on letterhead of Chicago Tribune where he worked for years, dated August 30th (no year) "Dear Mr. Hanson:- Sure. Ring W. Lardner." First issue without the poem by H. H. Howland on page 6. Small 8vo green cloth stamped in red on spine; pictorial plate affixed to front cover. Dust jacket printed on brown kraft paper with gummed edge on verso of front flap; designed to serve as a wrapper for mailing. Very good or better with endpapers darkened and spine toned but otherwise only minor wear; in good to very good dust jacket with shallow chipping and tears and internal archival tape repair to splits at folds and spine. Scarce signed.

Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, (1920). First edition. Lardner's spoof of Daisy Ashford's juvenilia, "The Young Visitors," published under the name of his then four-year-old son, "with a preface by the father." The book chronicles the Lardner family's move from Goshen, Indiana, to their new home in Greenwich, Connecticut. Near fine with only light wear to spine ends; in good to very good dust jacket with spine a little tanned and rubbed and showing a 1/4" hole.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, (1962). First edition. Check SIGNED BY LARDNER laid in and book inscribed, to wit, "To Larrry Barsten, With warm regards and gratitude. The above signature (from a canceled check) makes you the owner of the only autographed copy of this book in existence. Ring Lardner Jr." A Ring Lardner selection edited and introductions by Babette Rosmond and Henry Morgan, and a special introduction by Sarah E. Spooldripper who "lived with the Lardners for years and took care of their wolf. She knew all there was to know about Lardner, and her mind was virtually blank. It was part of her charm." The book has the top front corner a little bumped, otherwise fine, in dust jacket with spine coloring, not lettering, faded and some wear on corners and spine ends repair with tape and paper on verso.

Newsclipping of paragraph from "Ring Lardner Tells Prospective Auto-Owners All They Need to Know" (1920) in which Lardner describes how "a lamp post jumped right out in front of me and bit off a wire wheel" pasted beneath half-title which LARDNER HAS EMENDED TO READ "HOW TO DRIVE UP THE LEFT SIDE OF MICHIGAN AVENUE" AND SIGNED IN FULL. Another clipping advertising the fifth printing (at $2.00) affixed to front pastedown and clippings praising the book affixed to front endpaper and rear pastedown.
